My car's fitted with a DG. It's been absolutely great. I'd say £50 is a very good price (although you always take a bit of a flyer with ebay... caveat emptor and all that...)

Hmm definitley designed in the days when electronics was not to be trusted and bigger was most deff. better! Its HUGE and heavy( has a massive ballast weight) and when you pull the thing to bits all it is is a big impressive finned ally box containing a bit bigger than credit card sized PCB- even that could have been halved, each track is separated by at least 4mm of blank board-all doing the same as the much more compact Vellerman kit. Ok so it has a back to points switch(why?-legacy of the "dont trust electronic" days) and a timing light-which is where Vellerman looses out.
of the 3 points assist kits Boyer now gets my vote.
who wants a sparkrite sx1000 kit, still boxed with all fitting bits and instructions? £20 ish inc postage would be a fab retro gizmo for a champagne coloured Viva or the like:D

That link from Lenny was a real bargain - 3 happy 2CV owners out there!
Sean, yes they are big fellas, them Sparkrites. Fine for most big ugly heavy cars, but a tad crude for us delicate 2CV types. That's why I've tended to go for the 'TT' model - designed especially for motorbikes, but they work just as well in cars. They are really neat - about 2" x 1.5" x 1.5".
I fitted one to my very first car 30 years ago - a Dutton Melos I built myself. You could buy the units from Halfords these days. My last pre-2CV car - a Marlin - also had one fitted, care of eBay.
I now have another one ready for my 2CV - as soon as it's put back on the road.
Do you not think your SX1000 is still worth fitting? Why do you think the Boyer is better - or is it just size?
(Yes, the change-over switch was very much a 'just in case'...!)

yup pretty much Sparky too big and heavy for what is just a credit card sized PCB Velleman kit-need to add box and has no timing light so boyer_small, rugged, fully waterproof and timing light timing light not essential but allows you to check thet the points heel hasnt worn and moved the timing - and makes the initial setup a doddle and if it all stops at the side of the road you can see the iggy not at fault sparky tt set upmore points assist options
