How do I make a non galvanised chassis last longer?
It is in very good condition, but not "finished off", what is my best move?
A friend said 'wax oil'
thanks

yup the black stuff seems better than the tan stuff
thin it with white spirit, and spray it in side the chassis

then paint it on the outside paying particular attention to the seams, could even warm it with a blow lamp to get better flow

if the chassis hasnt been painted paint it first dont go with rattle cans use synthetic enamel ( even household gloss is better than the likes of hammerite)

thanks, the actual underneath has under-seal, but I reckon I can get plenty of wax oil into the inner parts.

When you have a good chassis and it isn't rust protected (also not inside), get all the paint and dirt of, (grinder) or better with chemicals and then........

Galvanise it.

I did my chassis too 10 years ago and it's the best thing I ever did.

good luck.

Please ask the local galvaniser first if he wants do do this, first thing they say the chassis has to be bare metal.

This sounds a crazy idea to me. What make of chassis is it? Stripping, cleaning (the cheapest, easiest and most environmentally friendly way is shotblasting) an old chassis completely to have it dipped in a tank is going to take you longer than fitting a new chassis and not so much less financially. If it's a reputable make it would be best to flood it with a preservative, having removed as much muck and corrosion as possible. If it's a dodgy one, then buy new. Remember a cheapo chassis will strain the body causing more corrosion there - and that's much more difficult to sort out! Let alone never drive properly :!:

If your chassis is by Citroen, then I think it would be pointless trying to galvanise it anyway.

I am not 100% sure, but I think my chassis is the original Citroen one.
