Re: Time to put a 2cv to sleep for a bit !
Assuming oboe can't do that, and has to leave the car undriven for a year, I'd tend to agree with ken, but yeah, in my limited experience I'd want it to be taken out and used once in a while.
Is that something you can arrange oboe?

Nice idea, but that means either asking your mate to break the law, or spending £125 for road tax, plus as much as £56 for an MOT every year you're away. That's assuming whoever drives it for you has insurance which will cover them to drive your car, or you'd have to pay for that as well!

Don't you have day permits to move a car around.

Re: Time to put a 2cv to sleep for a bit !
Viking, we have these 'little local difficulties' in the UK, known as MOT, tax and insurance, even ANPR, which act as disincentives to a run around the block in a vehicle which doesn't have all its paperwork up to date. Also, these links may be relevant when discussing long term storage of a vehicle in the UK compared with the same in a ( dry) land down under... < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drought_in ... st_century > < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000s_Australian_drought > ken. 2CViking wrote: Yes that's my whole point. Get someone to start and drive the beast around the block every 3 month and you don't need to do anything. I don't, never will.

There are ways and means, but it's either expensive or illegal. Day insurance is available in uk but tax is either 6 months or 12 months and is expensive. Oboe would have to have insurance regardless of whether the driver did (again, there are ways round that but not easy).

No day plates to stick on the car incl. insurance, like dealers plates?

Re: Time to put a 2cv to sleep for a bit !
I have left an engine a while and found it seized when come to fitting...
In uk, you have to insure the car, pre-book an mot inspection locally, drive to inspection then if the car passes you have to present the ownership paperwork v5, insurance and mot certificate, then pay them a fortune and they let you use the car for a while.
Yeah, there are ways round it, but not worth getting caught.
