Assuming oboe can't do that, and has to leave the car undriven for a year, I'd tend to agree with ken, but yeah, in my limited experience I'd want it to be taken out and used once in a while.

Nice idea, but that means either asking your mate to break the law, or spending £125 for road tax, plus as much as £56 for an MOT every year you're away. That's assuming whoever drives it for you has insurance which will cover them to drive your car, or you'd have to pay for that as well!

we have these 'little local difficulties' in the UK, known as MOT, tax and insurance, even ANPR, which act as disincentives to a run around the block in a vehicle which doesn't have all its paperwork up to date.

There are ways and means, but it's either expensive or illegal. Day insurance is available in uk but tax is either 6 months or 12 months and is expensive. Oboe would have to have insurance regardless of whether the driver did (again, there are ways round that but not easy).

In uk, you have to insure the car, pre-book an mot inspection locally, drive to inspection then if the car passes you have to present the ownership paperwork v5, insurance and mot certificate, then pay them a fortune and they let you use the car for a while.

Yeah, there are ways round it, but not worth getting caught.
