Pinking. Timing was slightly too advanced. Seems ok now, but I haven't gone up any hills in fourth gear yet ... we'll see how it is on the way to work tonight.

Is it possible to get up a hill in 4th :?: :?: :?:

Always worth checking if someone else has marked a flywheel, gawd only knows what some folk use as a reference mark.

I find that the face of the offside engine 'horn' is best, espcially if you take the time to fit a pointer, race style. ;)

Reset the timing on the Dyane ... turns out that the marks on the flywheel were two teeth out from "peg in hole" setting.

I use a hacksaw blade and cut a very thin mark on the starter motor lug on the engine and drill a dent into the fywheel (not deep just about 2mm deep) under the saw cut. This way no need for paint (which rubs off in time).

That's alright then. If there's one thing that gives me the red mist (ho ho), it's people who think they need two million watts of red lights on because there's a light drizzle or they've heard the word "fog" on the radio, or whatever. I see them practically every night on the M5 and it annoys me no end.

Errr,
that was after the fog had lifted.
At one point, it was impossible to see the house from halfway down the garden, so barely 50 metres visibilty.
Official recommendation is to switch lights on when visibility is less than 100 metres.
No mention of hand in front of face, either...

Are they better or worse than the numpties in (invariably white, silver or pale grey) cars in thick fog with no lights on at all... because it's "not dark".

Unfortunately, saw plenty of those today, including dark cars that were almost invisible in the murky mist of the West Midlands...

Just as bad. Likewise, those who think it's ok to use main beam in the face of oncoming traffic on a dual carriageway, those who have bulbs out (including the ones I see on the unlit section of the M5 with either no rear lights at all or only one sidelight bulb and nothing else on the front) and those who use front fog lights (AKA "twat lights") in any circumstances whatever. Including thick fog.

Haha! You'd probably punch me out if you saw my 2cv after dark, I think I have all the lights working one day of the year and then they gradually fail one by one in the weeks following its mot. Currently driving my old mans D*lly and ive already lost the rear fog lamp on a speed bump when I had it overloaded with gas bottles and welding wire. Sorry.
