Viking, if u want a business laptop go to Dell.co.uk - search for discount voucher codes on the web, will get u up to 10%.

James, Janey works for Dell, if u've had a problem pm me with detrails and she may be able to sort it for u.

You're all wrong ;)

Seriously, most people buy computers with power they will never ever use. My parents use email, Microsoft Office, deliver training presentations, watch DVDs, manage photos... nothing taxing. The most intense task they use their MacBook for is hooked up to the GPS on their boat to run the chart plotting software (under XP).

They were going to buy a new, cheap Dell. I stopped them and bought them a 2007 Macbook and stuck Windows XP on it so it duel boots.

A bit like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/White-Apple-Macbook-13-/121060928897?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Laptops_ET&hash=item1c2fcb2d81

It's significantly faster, more capable has more storage and a bigger screen than a new, equivalently priced netbook. Not to mention, you're inner tree hugger can rest easy in the knowledge that you're re-using something old :)

They paid about £300.

Warranty wise - the nice thing is, with any old Apple equipment you can walk into any Apple Store and they will help you sort it out for free and if it breaks give you a price there and then to replace it. Or you get 10% off any new mac if your old one really has had it.

I know us Mac users get knocked for being fanboys/cultish/geeks/extremists, but in fairness Apple hardware is so good, you don't need to buy it new.

Just for kicks I booted from cold the 2007 Macbook and their 2011 Asus 'net-top' desktop pc up at the same time. The Macbook loaded Windows faster than the windows machine.

Sam, you're asking me to purchase a USED computer :o

Used Dell (XP pro) since 2006 and still running but need to be mobile.

I don't think you can get XP any more. Options on the dell business site are only windows 7 and 8, NT.

We've only bought Dell PCs for work and never had an issue (other than what Knightly knows about, and that isn't really Dell's fault).

Well they're not the same as xp certainly but 7 pro. isn't much different. I haven't seen 8 yet.
- I still have one machine running 3.1!! and my last pre-windows machine died last year(we dropped it!).

I bought my laptop at a pawnshop recently!!!!
only 4 months old...

Including deliverybox and the warranty bill, for under half the new price (listed on the bill) So it still has got 1.5 years of warranty......

It was 447 euro new, I bought for 220 euro... wonder how much Euro the seller would have got!!!!!!

It was including windows 7 and a lot of personal stuff of the pre-owner!!!!

so deleted it to factory new....

You can see it in action on my vids, tuning several cars with 1-2-spark/megatune
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv1V9Qlgv3I

I still like windows Xp , however the support is almost gone now meaning it could be infected easier, but if you don't go online with it, Xp will be ok.

But windows 7 and 8 are ok. also. I guess.........
