91mph = 7,280 rpm and 100mph = 8000 rpm. WOW in a standard 2cv engine/box. Must have been a long 25% down hill....... ;)

In theory, shouldn't a late Ami 6 Saloon be the fastest (out of the factory), as they had the longest gearbox and the lowest drag co-efficient.

More aerodynamic than the Ami 8?

this was when the speedo was really optimistic.... needle was all over the place at any given speed.
This was about 125km/h on the GPS.

Got a "new" speedo now and that wont pass the 120, but GPS goes up to 130 easy..
new speede is really accuratue, 80 on speedo is 80 on gps.

93mph on my way to Cornwall in my 'c' reg grey/black charleston, 1 up, just had a tent and acoustic guitar. Tried to beat it in my 1.1 metro, 91mph with no rear seats, door cards and an empty tank. Charleston was deffinatly the fastest and quietest a-series I've had.

And Sam, the obscure angle of the rear window on a 6saloon actually causes more aerodynamic drag I believe..

Don't forget about the tail wind as well. :roll:
Got to wonder how many of these were obtained under the same conditions as when Citroen determined maximum speed for a particular model, which would have been on a level track in still air.
Or the average of two runs, one with and the other against any light breeze.

Nailing the pedal to the floor on the longest, steepest descent you can find only tests the crankshaft's durability, not an engine's power... :roll:

Not only does it test crankshaft durability, it tests a drivers ability to push the envelope, make sure his or her car has travelled faster than any of their peers and in doing so it establishes the size of their balls.
