Yeah, I understand the benefits of leasing a car. My bosses son in law works for BMW and can get good deals on lease hire vehicles, it does make sense for a worry free motoring experience, pay up each month and don't give a shit if it goes wrong because somebody else picks up the tab, that's certainly appealing to me, but on my motoring budget (less than nothing) I can't justify the expense each month, if I buy a car for more than two monthly payments on something new then I feel I've been conned.

Did you have a choice of cars?

What you get is a car that is new, that somebody else gets to fix, pay for and deal with when problematic, and you get that for three years. You have to offset that against owning a car which will ultimately cost you more, and if, when its three years old, it shits itself and dies, is YOUR problem!

Don't most cars have 3 year warranty - some have 7 years. Buy something that will cost you the £21,000 you are paying over the 3 years and then sell that. At least you will get something back - If you pay £21,000 for car after 3 years it must be worth at worst £8,000

I get a choice of any car up to £30K (dont want to sound a knob but Im a co-owner of a business) and tend to balance my choice based on a) desirability and b) how much the lease costs - depending on re-sale value, the costs of leases vary dramatically.
Doing around 40K miles a year, i dont want the risk, or inconvenience, of running an unreliable nail - under the current tax laws, it is still a minor cost - about £200 a month - for having the Evoque for me personally - if these were to change dramatically, I would look at running my own car - a second hand Insignia or the like, that has had the depreciation wiped off it but until they do Ill stick with a company car.....

But to be fair James, a car is a massive depreciating asset anyway, so let someone else have the worry 3 years down the line and 120K on the clock.....
