KEN Cody recently called in to enjoy our beaches, having driven here from Melbourne - via Adelaide, Coober Pedy, Lake Eyre, Innamincka, Winton, Longreach, Cairns and then down the Bruce Hwy - in a borrowed 600cc Citroen 2CV.

No breakdowns, punctures or four wheel drive - they don't make cars like they used to.

Owners of a 2CV are a special lot, many are French but Ken is Canadian but he does live in Brittany, France.

He and 20 others drove a convoy of 10 2CVs on this "Raid", as it is called, taking about three weeks with stops for photo opportunities along the way.

They may not be the speediest vehicle on the road as they chug along at about 80kph - usually a little faster than many Winnebago drivers.

Ken said he always pulls out of the way to let a road train pass.

The biggest problem for Ken was bringing in his own lovingly restored 2CV from France.

Unfortunately, it arrived too late to participate and so this is a borrowed one, a 2CV6 D*lly for the specialists amongst you.

It does have a date on the compliance plate of 1988 but that could be the date of just the firewall.

You may wonder why does he travel in this way. He says simply because it is there and the 2CV can.

love that lowered Mehari, reminds me of the days circa 1991 when i vowed i would do that, or a lowered series 1 land rover. rats, missed the boat and never accomplished that
