I have done as Ken suggested, and fitted a 106 jet into a spare carb I had.Fitted it yesterday.I will let you know how it goes.

Just make sure to get several months' worth of mpg data with the new jet before fitting your H generator and claiming it works. :|

Post Re: WOAH!!!!!!!
I have a fuel cat which I only fitted because it was the right price.

This was because having been advised to use an one of the additives for unleaded fuel in my 2CV, the cost of that was the thing that swayed me as the fuel cat only cost me £28 new an ebay purchase. As I was at the time using my 2CV every day to and fro work and as a general run about.plus my trips to France, the cost of the fuel cat with 100,000 mile suggested life was cheap compared to the addative as in about four bottles or so.Pure costing thats all folks must be my Scottish blood ...

My 2CV has done well in excess of 200 thousand miles and has ran on unleaded for the past 12 years and 140 thousand miles on neat unleaded with nothing added and it's fine. If that doesn't convince someone that a 2CV engine can easily cope with unleaded petrol, then nothing will. Fitting something to the fuel pipe or putting in an additive is a waste of money, £28 is very nearly a tankful at today's prices, that'll get you over 200miles of 'free' motoring. 8-)

It's difficult to understand how Fuel Cat are still getting away with selling this product, given that the Office of Fair Trading instructed them to stop making misleading claims about its effectiveness back in 2000.
http://web.archive.org/web/200412050941 ... +42-00.htm

Unless their wording is such that they're not making direct claims, but suggesting that positive customer feedback provides proof of its 'effectiveness'.
This site gives the lowdown,
http://fuelcatisascam.selfip.com/fuelcat.html
with this comment particularly relevant.

How long will it last?
Fuelcat will last 250,000 miles (400,000 kms) or 10 years with no maintenance needed.
It lasts effectively forever - it won't stop working, because it never worked in the first place.

Piston rings new <£40
valve lap free!
Electronic ignition module <£15
decent coil £10-£90*
A larger primary main jet £2-£3
Erm........
oh Strobe to set the ignition properly £16
2 HT leads £tenner ish
2 NGK plugs £3

(edit) DECENT BREATHER -£3 PIE DISH FROM ASDA &3 pop rivets

anything else is probably bollox

They used water injection on the the Spitfire engine to boost power for very short periods, which I suspect resulted in more power due to the extra mass of gases produced in combustion, as in bigger bang more power. Me I'm quite happy with my fuel consumption around town mid thirties and when I drive to and across France cruising ( in a 2cv !) at 55 - 60 I have got 50mph. I have a fuel cat which I only fitted because it was the right price. I use 95 in UK and 97 in France as my 2cv runs better on it, the local 95 seems to cause a lot of spitting back and lack of power. But who cares it's just so much fun to drive. Oh yeah I have 123 ignition and use NGK plugs, though come to think about it the 50 mpg was with Bosch super 4 plugs.

Been reading back through this thread about fuel cats and hydrogen - What does your hydrogen thing to Dave?

Also, there was a 2cv 4x4 at Pont de Ruan last Summer for the cross racing that had a water pipe going into a pipe between the airbox and carb, I couldn't work out why - s it something to do with the above?

water injection on turbo high comp engines running on the raggedy edge primarily to stop "handgrenading" during competition

Like 4" exhausts and K&N type filters probably not much benifit on a standard shonky 2cv

however in the past before striping an engine for rebuild I'd use a plant spray down the barrel of the carb at fast idle - makes the de coke job much easier.

Having read this thread, I'm of the opinion that servicing the car properly will probably ensure it will run at its most efficient. Making sure you have your mixure set correctly, clean air filter, correctly inflated tyres and less drag etc.

Don't forget that the key to getting good MPG is the speed at which you travel, I find that a 50 - 55mph cruise is just ideal in the 2CV and returns ace mpg. If you want great MPG at 70+ mph then erm how can I say this...get a C1.

I can make my solex reach 30mph and have 200+ mpg if I get low on the tank, but what's the point its a solex. Rim brakes are pretty scary at 30mph and I'd look even more of a pratt riding everywhere low on the tank.

It isn't. Call me anal but I always record the mileage every time I fill up, on every vehicle I've owned since, ahem, 1980.

My Dyane I bought new in 1982 achieved an average of about 52 mpg for the first couple of years and then started to drop gradually until it settled down to around 48mpg.

A couple of years later I read that the octane rating of four star had been reduced from January of, you guessed it, the year my mpg started to decline.

Over the last 12,500 miles my Dyane has averaged 42.35 mpg.
