They used water injection on the the Spitfire engine to boost power for very short periods,which I suspect resulted in more power due to the extra mass of gases produced in combustion, as in bigger bang more power. Me I'm quite happy with my fuel consumption around town mid thirties and when I drive to and across France cruising ( in a 2cv !) at 55 - 60 I have got 50mph. I have a fuel cat which I only fitted because it was the right price. I use 95 in UK and 97 in France as my 2cv runs better on it, the local 95 seems to cause a lot of spitting back and lack of power.But who cares it's just so much fun to drive. Oh yeah I have 123 ignition and use NGK plugs, though come to think about it the 50 mpg was with Bosch super 4 plugs.

You could spen 1000's on gizmo's, but of you just keep filling up at the gas station you'll probably spend no more than converting with expensive gizmo's

I have done as Ken suggested,and fitted a 106 jet into a spare carb I had.Fitted it yesterday.I will let you know how it goes.
