Binned the pistons from the '63 engine as one had been hitting the barrel and was dented and I sort of broke t'other one

I would be interested Ken, to see when valve stem seals appeared in the M4. As Russ will testify I'm getting a bit about M4s



Keep me posted. Also let me know if you have a spare set of heads with stem seals and good valve guides.


Perhaps I shouldn't mention that of the three types of M4 cylinder head I have: the '63 heads have straighter inlet cavities than the later 2 (one of which has stem seals, the other does not, but otherwise they're the same.)

Also, the later heads have dished and slightly larger exhaust valves, the earlier one has flat exhaust valves. The valves themselves however are interchangeable.

I so want a van

You see, Simon, you say that. And now it's lovely. I have a working van that runs smoothly, doesn't squeak and doesn't smoke (well, compared to before.)

This is what happened when I last visited London:



And 2 weeks ago, when it took me an hour to drive 12 miles because I kept having to stop to put the windscreen wipers back on, and it was raining in all over my left shoulder and I couldn't see the cars behind me because of the smog and I couldn't see the cars in front because of the yellow lights AND I'd realised that what I'd spent on oil had negated the vehicle being tax exempt I wasn't really feeling the love.

However, as I say, now all is good. Vantastic you might say. What Hetty lacks in speed, she really makes up for in ride comfort and handling. It is the nicest car I have ever driven and to be honest the older 2cv engines (particularly the M4 602 and 425) sound absolutely lovely.

Not for a second have I ever regretted buying Hetty. When I roll up at a camp and after a few drinks, fall asleep on the bed in the back - its lush.

Here's to 2cv vans
