That isn't an M4 oil filler is it? That looks like it came off a 425 or a 375.

Wouldn't surprise me. I'll check the spare M4 and see what that has, if not I have a good spare M28 breather.

What I think has happened (in short):

Van is G reg, VIN plate says AKB.
Photo from practical classics shows van 'pre restoration' with M28
Article mentions fitting 'period' M4

For some unknown and stupid reason the 'restorer' seems to have taken a '69 van and made it 'correct' for the end of '66 (12v, M4, etc...).

Er go it wouldn't surprise me if they took a oil filler of a 425 because it looked 'retro' and 'authentic'

I am completely up for correction/debate on this theory

On a seperate not - friend lent me his helicoil (sp?) kit this morning so I'll sort it out properly this weekend and give the engine a good clean too. I'll also open up the breather a little as clearly there's a lot of pressure building up if oil's being forced out a seal at the base of the filler pipe.

Who 'restored' it, Sam? Was it a previous owner or a 'specialist'?

Sam,
I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet, as one of the M4 engines I've got here has the same type of reniflard as is on your engine.

Fwiw, it's also got a dynamo, so I suspect that the early M4 engines had that 'organic' breather.

There are a couple of them in this photograph, much taller than the items fitted on earlier, smaller capacity engines, if I'm not mistaken... :?

Almost forgot; a loose bolt or stripped thread at the base of the breather will always result in an oil leak, regardless of how well the breather is functioning or the engine's general condition.

I think a Craig Horner from Milford Haven. Although frighteningly the welding was done by "Citroen specialists" - that would be the wonky welding inspired by Picasso...

What I don't get, is in the pic, it clearly has a dyane type front cowling and an 'oval' carb and late type jelly moulds. I'll scan the artivle and get some pics in the Hetty thread (meow squish).

Ok, so thread had sheared, cleaned out and used a longer bolt which went in tight.

But not wel enough because its still bloody leaving when you rev up you can see it being squished out from between the oil filler and the top of the crank case :(

Maybe the bolt is bottoming out (too long)?
Is there a gasket or seal that may have blown?
