i quite want the forced air intake for the carb, not sure why, but i feel like using the tin ware on there anyway...

The 9.00/1 pistons will do the job,forget the tinware .....the [2CV] carb will need rejetting though....... unless of course {maybe :? } your engine has come with the Dyane carb {and jets :? }
And I dunno wot jets you need, but no doubt "a man who does" will be along shortly.

i can only assume it has a dyane carb on, but will have the carb off and jets out, is the size written on them?

yes.
if its a late Dyane it may have the 18 26 carb

mine is on 9:1 and uses an 2cv carb with the primary main jet( the tiny grub screw one) 107

im not sure what the best set is going to be, dyane or 2cv carb, im not after more power to go up tearing tarmack, just want a bit more oomph...

the carb has the choke(the "choke" in this case is the narrowing of the throttle body to speed up the air, lower the pressure and draw the petrol into the mix-its not the cold start starangler flap!) sizes cast in little circles on the side of the float bowl

the jets are stamped with the sizes.....as long as no one has been at them with a drill and not re marked them

Post Re: Engine,
Plan:
Saturday, going to remove my engine out and put dyane engine in, test to see if its a runner or not, but i think either way im going to re build it, but id like to know if it will run before hand
its got a squeaky valve, one one side, how do i over come this? i assume its probably because there is no oil in that rocker cover?

there is oil in the engine, to which im going to change before i dare run the beast up, so hopefully ill get that done on friday evening, ready for fitting on saturday!

got my shopping list ready too if its compeltly shagged, but realicly ill be doing a complete re build, so either way its going to be expensive!

my list so far
full gasket set
barrel and piston set (dyane pistons!!)
oil pressure switch
fuel pump
valve stem seals
manifold nuts?
engine ducting screws plus retainers (missing a few, and most of them are quite rusty anyway

please tell me if ive missed the obvious, or tell me im an idiot and don need some thing

thanks

Post Re: Engine,
James,
a suggestion which might well save you some time and/or stress in extracting and replacing engines.

Before I fit an engine which is something of an unknown, I always run it 'on the bench', not so much a bench as some old crates, tbh.
All you need is a spare gearbox to hang the starter motor on, a battery and a can of fuel, although some form of exhaust will help keep the neighbours happy.
That also makes it easier to pick up any nasty knocking noises from the bottom end.
You can even hook up an oil warning light, so that once the engine is hot, it's possible to check for the dread 'oil light flickering at tickover' scenario.

Here's a ropy old Dyane engine which had been found at the back of someone's shed, fired up for the first time in 10 years and doing its impersonation of a canal boat engine
I forgot to put some pieces of wood under the crankcase, which is why it's doing the woggle dance...

Post Re: Engine,
Some sound advice ken thanks
I had thought about it, but few thingsgot me,
Firstly
I'll need a live to the coil, that's fine
It's the starter motor hot-wiring that baffles me!
I'll work it out

Post Re: Engine,
today i got the engine into the garage (which i was forbidden to do so by my parents but oh well)
took the manifold off and a bit of the cowling, no idea why i removed the manifold but hey ho, going to clean carb out, all the jets etc, and then put manifold back on, and try and fire her up...

removed one of the rocker covers too, will set valve clearences too,
and then going to do the timing, change the oil, pop some fresh fuel in, and attempt to fire her up

now my question is, how easy is it to hotwire a starter motor when its in place?
i know ill need to sort of fit the gear box...
