and how much crap was in that perfectly good fuel that you tipped out?

now do you see that there would have to be an awful lot of sediment at the bottom of the tank to affect the fuel pick up.....which is at a fixed height above the bottom of the tank so would draw from that 2l of crap if it were full or empty!

Has it still got that wanky coil on the bulkhead or did Sam remove it? I can't remember now. Sounds like a service kit which is about a score and half an hour of putting everything back to standard would be what it wants. Don't waste what little money you have buying stupid lead replacements. I have a couple of bits of lead I've been saving for the scrapman. But I'll happily sell one to you to pop in your tank if it'd help at all. Which it won't.

Bring it up to work this afternoon and we can do the tappets, gap the plugs and points and time it properly with matey next doors strobe.

ive often wondered how good strobes are, as to whether setting with a strobe will cause pinking etc, or how good it is (i know nothing about strobe lights,)

As good as the person operating it (assuming it's a xenon one rather than neon)!

depends if you want to shell out on one! I think they start at around £30, so it might make more sense to get in the queue above! Having said that, mine cost 50p from a car boot sale, and only needed a bit of attention to the pickup lead.

It allows you to time the ignition at full advance, which is when pinking is likely to occur, so is well worth doing.

using a strobe cant cause pinking just as using a screwdriver to adjust the carb doesnt cause rich running....the screwdriver doesnt cause the rich running the person using it does.

it lets you set the timing precicely at the point you choose and most importantly it lets you set it while the engine running so it will help to adjust out any lash in the system.
you can also use it to diagnose timing problems (if the flywheel has been marked up- for race engines i go for 0, 8* and 32* )

citroens own procedure was to use a device to check and set the amount of advance in the bob weight stops BEFORE setting the timing statically.

simply setting the timing statically while omitting that bit has the engine timed optimally for it being switched off

a 2nd hand strobe shouldnt be too expensive
