 Oldest known 2cv
I didn't want to pollute the van thread, but does anybody know the whereabouts of the oldest surviving 2cv in private hands? I guess there must be a few '48s out there still? I'm guessing Citroën have one, but where are the others?

 Re: Oldest known 2cv
I think I'm right in saying that although the 2cv was at the 1948 Paris Salon, the bonnet was welded shut because the engine wasn't production ready. You couldn't actually buy it until the following year after the 1949 Salon, and as soon as it was available there was quickly a huge waiting list which was prioritised for certain customers like midwives. Second hand 2cvs were more expensive than new for a few years because you could get it straight away rather than have to wait. How much was a new 2cv when they stopped making them in 1990, and did Mr. Nail's car sell for more than that, have we gone full circle in prices? I get the impression they launched it at the '48 because media speculation was rife and they wanted to silence the rumours, or maybe take advantage of them for publicity. Sorry Russel that was a massive digression, but I think I have seen some recent shots of 1949 cars in some of the 2cv books I have but they may be never used examples. Like this one: Or this maybe?

That's right, production started in July 1949 and only 900 odd cars were built that year.

Alan Lloyd (2cvgb Pre-70 Registrar) could tell you the earliest known to the club, at least. I think there is a 1950-51 example somewhere in the UK.

 Re: Oldest known 2cv
Isn't there ae pre production prototype in private hands in France? There was an article about it in Classic an Sportscar some years back. It was sent for scrap but the owner of the yard kept it and restored it. As to whether it is a 2CV, the prototypes were substantially different from the car that eventually emerged.

 Re: Oldest known 2cv
the oldest in the uk is an early 1952 and was a full restoration that we did but it was toned down to make it look more original before after
