If I do I'm blaming you Yeah anyway you're right. *stops being a massive twat, takes deep breath, mans up, gets out crimpers* I'll do it at the weekend, sans relay. You need a relay. Normally they are wired so they come on with the dipped beam lights, and go out if main beam is switched on. To achieve that you need a relay.

Well, you COULD just take the feed for the fog light switch straight from the light switch. 'course, it'll mean you've now got 200w passing through the light switch, instead of just the 100w that already makes it warm.

 Re: Fog lights
You probably don't need a fog light at all, save for the MOT test. I can count on the fingers of one hand the times it's actually been foggy enough to need one over the last 20 - odd years. Contrary to what most people seem to believe these days, you don't need to turn your fog lights on if it's raining, or if you hear the word "fog" on the radio or whatever. I'm not planning on fitting one to the Ami (which doesn't need one for the MOT).

Well, cos I'm a mahoosive twat I just want some huge fog lamps to look cool They're not particularly to be used, but if it isn't wired up at MOT time...

Ok, man advice: put the GHD product down- they are for gurls, stop fussing with your hair, spend the 10 minutes you'll save by not preening yourself looking at a wiring diagram INCLUDING relays, then go out there and get your fingernails dirty. nobody cares what your hair will look like and if they do they are shallow.

 Re: Fog lights
James2CV, I understand from your first post that these are FRONT foglights? I suspect peeps mentioning the MOT might be thinking of 'rears'? (Tho' front lamps NOT wired to switch with dipped beam might also be an MOT issue?) Relays are very simple things. Once you have one in your hand and read what each of the 4 pins does, you'll smile to yourself and your knowledge of electrickery will have doubled... (Barely-couched insult, there... ) You WILL need a relay. You could wire this up by taking a feed straight from the battery via a fuse and then to a heavy-duty switch on the dash to supply these lamps DIRECTLY with no relay, and this will work. BUT, it will mean that the lamps will come on independently of the headlamps so won't dip automatically when required. That is not good. And probably illegal. You will come back on here to tell us it's 'all done' - and we'll shout at you That eBay link from Ken looks genuinely good value*. If the instructions supplied aren't crystal clear, we will take you through it in as much detail as you need. There's only one proper way to do this job. And it really ain't hard. Honest. * tho' you will also need a dashboard switch so's they don't always come on with the headlamps.

(Tho' front lamps NOT wired to switch with dipped beam might also be an MOT issue?) Rears are testable. At least one is compulsory on anything '80 or later. If there's a pair, both must work. Fronts are never testable. No matter how many there are or how they're wired. Using 'em might be a Construction & Use offence, though - and, more importantly, it will almost certainly make you look like a tool.
