so i would need the re paint? seems a bit of a bargain!

think ill buy a small tin of hammerite, and do it with that,
im fucked off with the red oxide, its too soft, its been pushed where the door closes rightly on the sill, off its coming on saturday, and on some hammerite goes. i geuss however the red oxide there at the moment is better than nothing,

more money that i cant afford to spend :(
oh well least its one more effort to keep the beast rust free :)

As Two Fifty said it takes alot longer to remove s**t paint work on cars than it does to apply it be very careful its not worth doing a crap job if you plan on keeping the car for a long time take your time and do it properly! personaly I wouldnt use hammerite on anything I've always had bad results from using I certainly wouldnt use it on body work.

Red [Gloss] Hammerite is near perfect match for red 2CV's [Sunrise Red??? .... I cant be *rsed to look the paint code up] ....but I'm refering to late specials & R&W dollys.
It is however reputed to crack under stress .....and it is damn near impossible to paint anything else over it once its on.
I painted my sills & inner rear wings with it .....having used red cellulose primer as a base coat.
On hearing that it was prone to cracking,I found the only thing I could do to cover it [sills & inner rear wings] was to blast [black] "Schutz" underseal onto it at very high pressure .....this allowed the schutz to be nearly dry when it hit the bodywork ......even so,I left it for a week [in summer] to harden.
Over this,I then gave several more coats of red cellulose "Primer Filler" .....which is like orn'ery primer, but a little thicker.......again,it was sprayed at high pressure and left for several days to harden.
On top of this I then sprayed orn'ery red cellulose ...straight outa the aerosol can.
The result was that my sills & boot inner wings now have a sorta "mottley-gloss" effect .....[which looks OK ..... IMHO].
All this was done during August 2007 .....So far, theres no sign of any cracking, and no rust has appeared through ......YET .....[although,tbh,I have no idea what manner of nasty's might be going on underneath it all]

Draw your own conclusions James ... ;)

thats the way i look at everything nail..

thanks for info t,
i want my sills white which is why i was thinking of using the hammerite in white.
imgoing to strip the red oxide off, and use hammerite me thinks, ive not had much joy with it before but it seems easier than redoxide and spraying, whereas i can leave it glossy white :)

simples?

FAIL! i bilieve that what you young uns say

go to halfords get a 1/2 litre tub of alpine white mixed, use a brush on the sills and stipple it it looks like stone chip

and then you have the correct white to touch up everything else for as long as you have the car

hell you can brush, it give it a couple of weeks to harden then sand it back and polish it if need be

hammerite is crap too blue for the milky white of a D*lly

Hi james ......I would be wary of trying to paint any sort of white over red oxide.
Red has a nasty habit of "bleeding" through white....even with dis-similar paints.......maybe a coat of dark grey primer first would help.
Good idea of Seans [re. stippling the paint on] .....thats the effect I was trying to describe when I described my sills & inner rear wings as "mottley-gloss".

Good
and youll find that Halfords rattle cans of Ford Radiant Red match the wings as well as anything. especially if you spray a drop in the lid and use that with a small brush to touch up stone chips
