Welcome Pottsy! Great cars you have!
Funny that only the French cars have a name ;)

Thanks Tom. Actually the Mini gets called lots of things, sometimes complimentary, sometimes not.

My sons used to call it "Blue Midget" after the shuttle in Red Dwarf, but it never really caught on.

I'm torn between "Wombat", an acronym for Wonderful Old Mini But Almighty Tatty, and "Scruffy", 'cause it is.

I just usually call it "The Mini" as opposed to being able to say "The Citroen" and not knowing which one is meant.

Oh, and Zaphod got his name from the character in "Hitchhiker's Guide" because I bought it in the southern state of Tasmania, where tradition has it that all the denizens have two heads.

As far as provenance of Alphonse goes, I've yet to glean more info than I currently have, but I'm on the case, believe me!

Cheers, Pottsy

Post Re: Welcome, Willkommen, Welkom, Bienvenue. Introduce yourse
Hi there,
since i joined this forum nearly 20 months ago I think it might be a good idea to introduce myself..? :)
22 years ago I was born in Hasselt, Belgium, as the son of an ex-2cv driver. My dad drove BX'es and CX'es at that time, so I guess I got the genenetical predisposition from him.

8 years ago I bought my first 2cv, a quite mint car but for a small price, due to a leaking main brake cilinder. During the folowing 5 years i managed to fix that so three years ago at last I was able to do some meetings with my own 2cv instead of having to lend my fathers Berlingo ( ) or get me a carpool.

8 months of happily 2cv-driving went by. I really liked that car but I didn't hesitate much when a friend of mine offered me to buy his redundant Méhari-wreck. I knew it needed a new chassis and a lot of work, but got new subframes etc. with the car so I decided to go for it, although I had to sell the 2cv to get the finances ok.

The next 25 months I undestood the difference between a chassis-swap and a restauration, but after all it's road legal again after 25 years of sleeping in sheds from 3 owners who never started to work on it.

Some pictures to give you an idea of my two-cilinder-curriculum:

At last: the méhari like she's ment: topless with the windscreen down. I can't get enough of the flies on my teeth and the wasps bouncing off my forehead

So in fact you like your own Méhari :? ;)
I like it too; new chassis, healthy body/construction, technically ok (partially new, partially revised, partially 2nd hand parts but totaly trustworthy), without a fresh paintjob or hours of suffering to get the bodywork mint so one doesn't have to be too carefull.

(also I'm not patient enough to keep things shiny and clean)

Hello folks, Ive recently just got my 4th 2cv, its been a while since my last but when I let the last one go 12 years ago, I knew it wouldnt be my last, having been a car nut forever and a few years and always loving the beauties. they have all been blokes (i'm not gay or owt ) just a tradition. mmm except the first, which was called Floss, my wifes choice :? He/ she was a X629 SCP, short for scrap, i was ripped off by being unaware and not doing my research, and falling for the bitches lovely paint :P all orange and shiney, innocent single house wife my arse she saw me coming and no mistake, snapped the chassis which was completely goosed but covered over with a bit of plate  oh how i laughed at the sparks after laqnding that hump back bridge jump for a picture, was funny and made me learn how to fix stuff , bought a scrapped 2cv, also orange as it turns out, she was called ezmerelda, what another woman! I hear you all yell, mmm ,yes not doing too well on the blokes names then, ezzy had a new chassis before the crash so at a mates farm stripped both motors to nothing on friday and worked solid for the whole weekend resulting in a rebuilt Floss all her bits on the ezzy chassis at 11 pm sunday night, sorted :D did a coupla uk meets with my mate john in a matt blatt B plater, he bought it after a thrash round some of our local rd , frightened him to death how far it leaned round the first bend , butbthen he was hooked. any way i digress, after a small bump which the ins wrote Floss off. next I got uncle Burt,At last a bloke. a red B plate special. went the adventure bumpers onthat and did a 652 visa head and barrels, under front door exhaust and black roof, loved that car and thrashed it everywhere, lots of good memories with uncle burt, but sadly the stearing arm on the left broke mid corner early one thrash to work nr hebden bridge and i ploughed into a lamp post, killing uncle burt but only blacking my eye and 4 stiches in the eyebrow, was very lucky, but some shit nicked my brand new trainers while i was being given a cuppa by a local, I ask yer. any way after burt came Alfie Noakes, yes there is now a Derek and Clive link. respayed alfie a deep metallic blue and had gsa full disc stainless wheel trims,Gsa double valve springs,no big silencer just short pipe behind wing, lowered with black roof , looked very nice sounded like a Triumph Bonnie 650, I will post pics of em all when i get used to the site, New un is a lovely celeste blue D plate bought to take to france which is a tale in itself for a later date. just fit new tubular black bumpers, old style grill ( now srayed black) new ally grill mesh and new black roof, the car already had electonic ignition, harley coil, new galvanised chassis and all the bits and bobs i always wanted to do to my old uns but was too skint and busy to do, lowered it today to nicely fill the front arches and off with the long silencer and on with the van type short side exit end pipe behind front wing on ento swan pipe. the sound is back, yippee. things are lookin cookin, king pins and ne3w discs last week and straight thru mot, oh happy days  cant wait to get to france, was there on a flyer to our house in Charante region and saw, several amis, dyanes and 2cvs 10 in total over 3 days, brilliant. glad to be back, Trotsky
