ive got a proper battery RT, my quesiton was how long are the cables, and how can i over come the problem with the rod thing (which lenny has now solved)
its a problem to me, as i cant put the bonnet hold up thing in its proper place as it shorts on the battery terminal

ive got a battery thingy repair frame, and its solid as anything,
the battery is un noticeable heavier anyway, just 2 inches longer

That's my point. They're all problems because you're trying to fit a battery which the car's not designed to take. Get a battery of the proper size and the problems will magically go away. And you'd be surprised at how much extra leverage those two inches will exert on the bulkhead, heavier or not.

well ive got it, its in, the only thing i need is the rods to hold the yoke in place, which i will sort out soon when i can, and battery cables so i can put the battery cable round the other way, and im sorted,

2 inches give or take,
i know it will put alot more strain on, but like ive said, ive got that repair thing, so the load is on the tube on the bottom of the frame which rests on the lip, it seems very sturdy, i recon i could stand on it, well im not going to try, but ive pushed down quite alot and it doesnt move a mm

dont see what crime ive commited by doing this :|

James, the 2cv had a 6v electrical system up until '69/70, and a 6v battery is much smaller then a 12v battery, so even with a standard 12v 063 battery fitted, you're putting too much strain on the bulkhead.

You haven't committed a crime at all. You asked for our opinions and we're giving you them. If you don't want them, don't ask for them. ;)

hmm

just seems im being attacked from all angles

IMO, it feels ok, the repair frame seems very good, i highly reccomend it, as the battery used to flex (standard battery) and after fitting it its most solid as a tree

But what is the point? You said you got the battery cheap but now you have to spend to make it fit? Are you still saving?

well it currently fits, as it is, but to have it happily fitted,
im not going to blag my way out of that one

infact it was probably cheaper
how much would a battery be on average? (excluding ecas as its pick up only, and too far!)

i was just thinking, could i put the battery in the cab, under the seat? in a battery box? that would work?
although it would be a pain in the arse

You do NOT want a lead acid battery in the cab with you under any circumstances. If you have an accident and the thing breaks loose the acid burns are EXTREMELY nasty. They simply don't heal properly and I'm told skin grafts are not the best way to get to meet pretty nurses.

And a loose flying battery is easily heavy enough to kill you. I know a guy who had his ankle broken by a flying 10mm spanner in a rally car crash.

Stop being an arse and do it properly.

it would be bloody uncomfortable - have a look at the height of your battery, and the height of the seats!

I used to have a larger battery on my 2cv - it came off a berlingo, and it was free :) I seem to recall it had much the same footprint, but was slightly taller. The rods weren't quite long enough for that, but by taking the springs out, I could *just* get it to do up.
