Post Battery Cables, + fuel pipe question all in one go
right so ive fitted a heavy duty marine battery into the car (iit wasd about an inch longer, a couple of questions,
can you get longer battery yoke thingys? as mine doesnt quite reach (ive tied some string to it to the hulkhead so its clamped in) so its clamped in, but would rather get rid of the string!
any ideas?
needs to be about 2 inches longer
reason for changing the battery? friend of mine had a very cheap battery heavy duty (he got it cheap) and has been trying to shift it. the car now turns over very well in the cold (struggled the old battery did)
the details of the battery are
700 cold cranking amps,
85ah i believe (has 20 hours written next to it?)
its a beast,

my real question is, the battery terminals are the other way round, so ive had to make things work a bit, now how long are the standard 2cv battery cables? a meter?
im going to replace them as there a bit too short, and then put the battery the other way, so positive is towards the bulkhead and the terminals on the inside of the car if that makes sense, ?
and i just need a fough figure so i know what to work with,

plus a neg cable too ofcourse,
i know its expensive, but might as well get thick cables if ive got the battery to carry the power,

also
ive replaced the fuel hose as im sure you are aware by now, i lost the bit of sleeving from chassis leg to the pump, what size is this sleeving? can i get it anywhere?

Wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper to buy a battery that fits?

So long as the battery's capable of providing the starter with all the juice it needs, which a healthy standard one is, more juice won't help.

go shopping get a bosh battery 036 i think is the standard - fits ax bx saxo 106 etc etc etc

well ive got this one, and it was the same price as a battery that fits

i believe there 590mm, so a metre should be enough,

another reason to turn the terminals round (and get longer cables) forgot to mention, the bonnet stay shorts on the positive terminal otherwise!!

sean i have this battery fitted now anyway and all working so just need longer cables and im sorted(oh and a longer battery rod thing

collective sigh ;)

the 2 2cv can barely support the standard battery as it is, sticking in some barge battery aint goin to help.

as long as the cables are clean and tight and the starter is in good order a bigger battery isnt going to make any differance

Junk it and get a proper battery. By the time you've arsed about bodging together lengthened tie rods, strengthening the bulkhead and buying longer leads, you'll have spent the thirty - odd quid a new battery would have cost you in the first place. And it'll save you having to start a "How do I repair my bulkhead?" thread in six months' time. ;)

Reckon you could get hold of some threaded bar to make new rods. Any bolt supplier should have it, or even B&Q.

yer i was thinking that lenny, there 8mm thread

ive got a proper battery RT, my quesiton was how long are the cables, and how can i over come the problem with the rod thing (which lenny has now solved)
its a problem to me, as i cant put the bonnet hold up thing in its proper place as it shorts on the battery terminal

ive got a battery thingy repair frame, and its solid as anything,
the battery is un noticeable heavier anyway, just 2 inches longer

Remember also that the more Ah the battery has, the longer it takes the alternator to recharge it. I.E. if the alternator gives 30 Ah, it takes about 3hours to recharge the battery.

And your going to rebuild a lot on your car, wich shouldn’t be necessary with a standard battery.
