 Wet sand paper
Who here has wet sanded a panel? Is it a good method? Apparently it helps prevent the paper from clogging up?

 Re: Wet sand paper
AFAIK it's the only method? Never tried it dry myself!

 Re: Wet sand paper
Yep 'wet and dry paper' fine grit (p600-1000) before priming , drop the square you've cut out to use in a tray or bucket or whatever of water and fairy liquid type stuff mix and keep slapping it back in while you're sanding down.

 Re: Wet sand paper
The only time dry sanding is a good idea is when your sanding primer, as primer is porous and will absorb some of the water. When you topcoat over that you could end up getting microblisters in the finish later on.
For dry sanding use those grey aluminium carbide type papers as they are made for the job and don't clog up as easily as wet and dry would if used dry.

 Re: Wet sand paper
my opinion the boys are right, always wet, only use dry on jell coat on boats (learnt that when i was working in a boatyard repairing sailing singhies) (i was desperate! working with gel coat is awful) i wet and dried my hole boot lid, its good, id start with 600 maybe? depending how rough, then move onto more fine stuff to get it flat keep it was as you can then moving onto the finer stuff, if all you own is 600, then fold it onto itself and rub it against itself (sands it self to a less abrasive state) sometimes needs must you know
