Had a full day in the garage today so actually managed to get some proper work done.

That said, I appear to have lost my welding mojo which isn't too good when you've as much welding to do as I have!

Anyway, I still managed to get loads done, I just had to grind a lot more welds back than I'd have liked to.

Pictures anyway...................

Not to worry about your welding. The main thing is that is will hold and I'm sure it will. It is looking good, keep them coming

how clean was the metal?

looks like a lot of paint and/or zinc affecting the weld area. it also helps to clear the back as the burning paint can blow the weld pool from the back ....shiny bright metal!

panels may be zinc coated under that black plastic protective paint, the windscreen panel i did was. ideally it needs to be cleaned off, nitromors and these clean it up really well
S

ps its not a crit just trying to get your mojo back

spanners,
that's looking much happier now...

Can't tell from the pics, but did you paint the underside of the floors before putting them in?
Years ago, I'm sure I remember turning up at Charlie Maharry's place to deliver some stuff and he had the whole child labour operation in full swing, with the youngsters doing all the hard work of painting the 'hidden' parts.

@ Sean, thanks for the words of wisdom-I cleaned both sides of the panels thoroughly to ensure there was no paint but, it seemed that unless I'd gone at them with the grinder and sanding disc, it'd still be a crap weld. It was very disheartening.

That said though, it's coming together which is the result I'm after.

@ Ken, yes, I painted the bits you can't get at once they're welded in although, I'll be taking the shell off when it's done as there's way too much new metal without appropriate protection been welded in!

I supsect next time I have a welding session, it'll all go smoother-think I was too stressed about it as it's taken me so long to get to this stage and I was getting worried about the B pillar cracking etc.

Thanks all for the positive comments 8-)

think it may have been a zinc phosphate or a zintec coating guessing by the white deposits, pressing probably done on pre treated stock and painted later

do you use a flap disk in the grinder?
if not get a couple (....screw fix tool station any decent hardware store aimed at pro rather than diy) not only do they zip through any zinc they clean up welds beatifully much softer grind than a rigid disk but faster and more forgiving its win win win!

Spent about 9 hours in the garage working on the Ami yesterday.

Only just about thawed out enough now to post anything though!

I got stacks done but it somehow doesn't really show. I've repaired all the right hand rear door shut, seatbelt mount and the flange that the rubber between said door pillar and rear wing goes onto.

As is the norm, I also have some piss poor photos of things. So, without further ado.......
