Re: Strange question, writing a letter how to?
Might be of interest to put the reg number into the dvla website to see when it was last on the road? I've got a (very tatty!) bike sat out the front here with a brand new number plate, brand new tax disc and an F-off chain on it, in almost daily use, and I'm afraid it does wind me up when people knock on the door and ask me if I want them to take it away! At least they ask first, I suppose.....

Where is it James? I'm well up for turning up before both you and Sam do.

In terms of driving something rough through the winter, you'd be better with a pug or a fiesta. The winter would do the same damage to either of your 2cvs so they'd both end up needing the same work doing. If it's a heap strip it for parts. When mine was all bashed up a chap left a note on my windscreen offering me his old green n White one which he couldn't be arsed to scrap himself as long as I took t away

Re: Strange question, writing a letter how to?
Personally I would make the initial enquiry by note giving your phone number and details such as you were a young lad 'looking for a car to restore with your dad as a winter project'. If they ring you and give you a price/the car then that's great.
If they don't ring inside a week say, you could then turn up in person in the 2cv and enquire politely. Having someone older with you at the time (your dad?) will lend weight to the offer and convince them that you are genuine.
By giving the note first it gives them time to mull the proposition over rather than be put on the spot, where they may just say no rather than make the wrong decision. Also by saying that you are 'looking for a car as a winter project'it says that it didn't necessarily have to be a 2cv, and thus the price will remain lower.
If you turn up in a 2cv, wanting to buy a 2cv, the price will suddenly inflate from what it perhaps would have been to a non enthusiast.

Spot on advise. I shall write a letter and post it through theredoor. However I shall be turning up to post it in a 2cv, I was going for the angle of I'm a fellow 2cv enthusiast.. And speak about a winter project!!

And speak about a winter project!! Fair enough, but O-N is quite right. If they take note of the 2CV at all, it won't be to think "oh, at least D*lly's going to a good home". It'll be more like "hey, it's one of those nutters with the silly cars. Let's jack the price up".
