There's no rush to get on with it at the moment as a suitable van needs to be sourced at this end, so late spring sounds fine. Why... I'd even break this exciting news to Mrs. Nail immediately but for the fear of interrupting something that I believe is called 'Britains got the X factor in the jungle' . Seriously mate, very good of you to offer first refusal, let me know when you are ready. I always thought it was 'Britains got the dancing X factor in the jungle' i thought it was 'Britains got the dancing X factor in the jungle omnibus'

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Old Nail....thats just fine...will keep you posted and I wont want much dosh...depends which bits you are after. The thing to consider also are the windows. Personally I would have less in the back as it stops people looking in and also you might not look like a camper and can "stop over" easyier....however fitting windows to a panel van isnt difficult...done it a few times....and no different of course to a 2CV....except you can put the hole where you want (hmm....now there is a thought!), sourcing windows and kits can be difficult and expensive or cheap depending on the van ....ones with "production" windows in mini bus versions being an example (except modern ones are bonded in...) . Panel vans with flat panels also OK. Sorry if I am also stating the obvious, but I am 6'3'' and therefore when I have done campers realise the bed dont work for me "width ways"...that is a shame as it messes up obvious internal designs. Cant help you at all with window boxes !
James....good to natter just now .....I now feel really err...old....I realised I was discussing an engine with you I had removed from a car before you were born....oh dear....still.....time I reckon I had a mid life crisis....see you all soon with a red sports car and a 19 year old blond ....or more likely.....
Caravan clip.....is it just me....or does Robin Reliant spring to mind ?....and that is a better way to have a mid life crisis......

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Squeeze, I love Time Team. I wanted to be an archaeologist, but the closest I got to working with old relics is working in an old people's home. Well, whilst Strictly Ice Jungle Factor was on, I was watching Garrow's Law on BBC 1HD. Sorry Old-Nail, I fear I've invaded your thread with garbled nonsense. I'd better stop.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
James this thread is for garbled nonsense, you guys were just fillin' in till I got back. John I knew Fred Dibnah, well sort of. His first wife Alison was always at our house, she was a good friend of my first wife. Dibnah was making a tv documentary about himself one time when Alison upped and left him mid way through it, took the kids too. He had a darker side shall we say. Most of my family were steeplejacks, all of my uncles were. Dibnah and my uncle Dennis once climbed up a very high chimney in Bolton known as Barrow Bridge chimney, using no safety equipment, and at night, just to hoist a pair of women's bloomers up there as a flag. There she is, Barrow Bridge chimney. A daunting task to climb in daylight with a safety harness I would have thought, but the real killer is that they did it after a night on the ale!

I've seen that, they repeated it a few times a couple of years ago on whatever the freeview history channel was called at the time. As you say, definitely a darker side to him - there weren't anything like as many chimneys or steam engines as you might have expected! Having said that, having seen the way he used to run around dodging falling bricks and squeezing a bulb horn in the earlier days of that series, I can well imagine him drunkenly bloomer-flying!
