The "benefit" of Classic car insurance is "agreed value", with Tesco they will pay out "market value", which for a 20+year old car is about £100. Is it worth paying £1300 for a "return" of £100? Is there anybody on this forum that has had experience of claiming on an total loss classic car on a "normal" car insurance? You don't have to lose a car to reap the benefits of agreed value. The repair bill for my rear shunt in January came to a bit over £3000. Thats new sweeps, quarters, etc... sprayed up by a classic body shop. The parts alone were £750. (ecas did well that day!) That was in January and the claim still hasn't been settled. The third party's insurers aren't willing to pay that much. So twas a good thing I was on agreed value - FJ had to have mine repaired. Oh, the third party insurers were Tescos by the way

I'm not sure for certain, but thats what happened to Matt ami reg, and I got the impression Spanners had the same problem from something I read here. Then you seem to be tied in to only older cars. Worth checking out I think.

Definitely not my fault - it was parked in the marked parking bay outside my house, and a woman in a sprogbus reversed out of the drive opposite straight into it. I was thirty miles away at the time... Not many ways that could be suggested to be my fault, although she tried to claim it wasn't hers. "But it's dark, and it's a black car - I didn't see it". "I'd got a car full of screaming children"... That'll be why you managed to detach the interior trim from the Saab, and move it several inches sideways - from a two-car-length run-up...? Xmas wrote: I think you loose your accumulated NCD if you stay on a classic policy. Yup. Classic policies neither "use" or accumulate No Claims - so it gets "parked". If it's "parked", it expires after two years of non-use.

I'm not sure for certain, but thats what happened to Matt ami reg, and I got the impression Spanners had the same problem from something I read here. Then you seem to be tied in to only older cars. Worth checking out I think. When I bought my current 2cv in April 2002 I insured it on a "normal" car insurance policy, which I had about 9 years NCD. When I bought my Fabia, I took out another policy (but couldn't use NCD, because it was running on the 2cv's policy) and used that for about 3 to 4 years. When I decided to take a classic policy out on the 2cv, I was advised to transfer the NCD to the Fabia, which I did....But it was a bit of a faff (I had to send the 2cv's renewal reminder to the company insuring the fabia, and it caused some confusion with the brainless morons working there). So, in a word......Yes. You lose your NCD on a "classic" policy. EDIT :- I'd better make it clear that both cars have the same renewal date each year, so to transfer my 13 or so years NCD I had to send proof of entitlement. The problem arose due to the fact that I'd also changed insurance companies for the Skoda, and when I told them I owned the car about 4 yrs but they received the "proof of entitlement" with the 2cv as the car insured, it caused the aforementioned confusion. Basically, they wantd to know why I was sending a "renewal" with a 2cv on it, when I was trying to insure a Skoda Fabia and owned the Fabia for the previous 4 years (they wanted to know what had been happening to the Fabia in that time frame). I just explained the situation to them and they were happy with that.

 Re: Right names please
I suspected as much.
When I used to swap between motorbikes and cars the same thing happened, but since I've run classic cars this is the first time that I haven't run a modern as well. Silly rules methinks.
So I take it that if there was a claim for a total loss on the date when the ncd expired you would actually come better off.
