Like To answer the original question though, do what it says here and see what happens... http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insuranceyou can quickly cover 85% of insurance providers from the first 5 sites. Can't vouch for how it turns out for youngsters like you Mr Rebel, this sort of thing wasn't around when I was young... It were all fields round here.

Trouble is, the 15% not covered are the ones most likely to not run a mile, screaming, from a yoof with a distinctly patchy driving record and a cack-hand old van.

Maybe, like I said never tried it in my youth. However when I'm insuring the LHD smart a bunch of the brokers / insurers do not quote for LHD cars. But becuase you get so many providers at once it makes up for it and you still get some interesting quotes. (mostly sub £100 comp each for the 2cv, smart and civic) As you've got over 200 brokers / insurers quoting, after a few minutes form filling, it might be worth a try? (and the next year its lightning fast to requote as your data is saved)

I can't remember the last time I paid more than £120 fully comp... in the last couple of years I've had £99 insurance with The Post Office (£50 excess) £120 with Adrian Flux (can't remember excess, I did get 0 one year and it wouldn't have been more than 100) £110 with Footman James (again either £50 or £100 excess) and now on the allegro, £100.20p FJ. But then I'm old (for all you under 25s!!) and my last accident (never been at fault mind) and points were well over 5 years ago. Hang in there! It'll get cheaper!

Every search for insurance counts as a loan refused, or something. We very nearly couldn't get a mortgage 18 months ago because I'd been looking for insurance. I can't see how refusing to buy something you have been offered is going to impact your credit status. It's because you're effectively being offered credit every time you get a quote. I know, it doesn't seem fair, but it caused our mortgage advisor to do that noise that builders do when they see a badly installed partition wall.

 Re: Right names please
That's an odd system. the fact that you are being offered the credit is the salient point, that must mean that you are creditworthy no? Your refusal to accept it shouldn't be recorded as their refusal to grant it. Stranger things have happened though.
Question: When using 'classic' insurance (mine's with FJ) does your NCD for ordinary vehicles remain intact?

The "benefit" of Classic car insurance is "agreed value", with Tesco they will pay out "market value", which for a 20+year old car is about £100. Is it worth paying £1300 for a "return" of £100? Is there anybody on this forum that has had experience of claiming on an total loss classic car on a "normal" car insurance?

 Re: Right names please
Not on a car but I did on a motorbike. I had to supply several photo's to prove that the bike was in exceptional condition, and thus commanded a greater replacement value. Some vehicles fall off the book, which means that to ascertain their value you need to provide the insurers with additional information. When it says 'market value' on your policy that is what they will offer, so for a 2cv next to nothing.
I wonder how those price valuations in the classics mags will stand up as proof, as surely they now give the current 'market value'?
