Post Re: Blue Smoke / Engine flush?
ahh fair enough, when i last did a change, i put some more oil in after dropping, didnt run it,btu it did shift some old oil but no sludge, the oil ive got coming is very expensive (jcb) which is normally like gold dust price, but got a contact who got some, so i may go to frauds or somewhere and buy some cheap nasty oil to flush with, i do have a slight oil leak, when i went on holiday, there was about 1/8th of an egcup worth on the floor, not much but still could be a contributing factor (i went on holiday for 2 weeks)

engine flush will not have any effect on a leaky engine neither will expensive digger oil

save your money for a new breather and make sure the timing isnt too advanced as an advanced engine doesnt do a ropey breather any favours

Should be visible where from, then.

Nope, still doesn't make a lot of sense.

Oh, wait a sec. Dripping from the sump plug?

Stupid question - last time you changed the oil, did you use a new copper washer?

Get the cowlings off the engine, give it a good clean-up, then run it for a while. If there's any serious amount of leakage, the source will be obvious fairly quickly.

No i didnt ome to think of it, its not dripping from plug, running down engine and dripping down plug, it leakes about 1/4 egg cup full per night, when i get my new pipes ill taje cowlings off then. I got two washers with ros service kit, does it only need one?

Might be your cylinder head oil feed pipe, if it's rusty. Rusty metal develops pinholes and oil will leak through them at higher pressures. The leak is not always obvious when you look at it, unless you can somehow have a gander behind the fan cowling at 70mph.
Either that or my engine leaked from the joint between the crankcase halves just above the points box. A CPD valve from ECAS cured that.

theres a pattern emerging here

1 buy a breather

2 clean the engine and look for an oil leak, easier to see with black oil so do it before you change the oil

but not necessaily in that order!
take the cowlings off degrease and wash then run it with no fan or cowling ( about 10 mins will cause no dammage) there should be evidence if its a leak
