Post Re: Motorways
Never had a problem. There was a wondeful week or 2 where petrol was about 1.22 and all the 4x4s and porches would pootle along in the inner lanes and I could steam passed them all :)

I wouldn't worry about taking it on a motorway. In fact I'd say you're safer on a motorway than an A road. The number of twits who pull out of filters ahead of you thinking you're doing 50 when your pushing 75

Post Re: Motorways
Never had a problem with motorways till I drove the 4x4 2CV thru Germany. Suddenly realised that at night doing 55mph (low ratio gearbox) I was getting passed by cars doing 3 times my speed :!: My main worry was wondering if they had seen me in time. Since then I've fitted an extra 3 tail lights to the back of the car.

My advice is to drive with side lights on at all time and stay in front of a big truck doing 54 mph.

Incidently I didn't feel much safer in the Xsara doing near 90 when I was getting passed at 150. The car still felt like it jumped a foot sideways.

As for long distance driving 2CVs lap it up. Gearbox guru and I got back from Finland 1500 miles in 4 days flat out all the way.

Post Re: Motorways
I drive a fair bit on the motorway and haven't had a problem yet...

BUT - (and this post might be better placed in Technical) I start to get a strange vibrating noise / howling once I start to hit 100 KM/h (i've only driven KM cars for the last 9 years, so easier to stick to KM)

it's coming from the front, definately - and it's not revs related as i can be revving it hard up hills at 60 or 70 KM/h and there's no noise - similarly, down hill, low revs - but as soon as I hit 100 it starts the howling?????????????

(no i haven't got a wolf under the bonnet)

Thanks for the heads up about the blind spot in a left hand van, just been out on the M65 and its so easy to lose a car in there, pretty impressive actually...

Thing is I used to drive a mini from Preston to London and back once a week, and thought nothing of it, I think as I get older I'm just getting lazier. When you drive a modern car you tend to just take the ability to switch the power on and off for granted, I'm finding the main thing in the Acadiane is to just relax, set off an hour earlier and watch everyone else rush on by, its a good feeling actually.

Quite impressed by the wind assisted "automatic lane change" feature that the acadiane has, very useful

I find the exact opposite, tbh. Driving a 2cv on the m'way - especially when the traffic is reasonably heavy but moving in all three lanes at about 50-odd - makes me drive more aggressively, to try to keep momentum going. Is that gap two inches longer than the car? Oh, yes. Sold...

Heheh I know what you mean, you can't help going "maximum attack" McRae style sometimes, mainly just to show 'em all up, good to see the look on peoples' faces. I wanted to post this is a seperate topic a while ago, its hard to resist flooring it and driving like a nutter just for the thrill of it sometimes, especially when someone's up your backside, its like "just wait til I get over this hill", they overtake you and then you have to drive after them... ;)

The problems really start when I then get into the Saab and drive in the same style... Binary throttle is a bit less, umm, recommended with 175bhp...

Coming off motorways is a favourite of mine, when a car comes up fast behind and the driver decides it's best not to overtake at the last second, so sits behind me. When that happens, I tend to keep my foot flat to the floor and keep it there till yards from the roundabout, by which time the car behind is way back down the slip-road  When they do catch up, I just love the look of amazement on the driver's face. Priceless :D

Also love hoofing round roundabouts flat out. Again, Priceless. :D

You want to try it with 155 tyres fitted. Even more grip and fantastic screechy noises
