Re: How much tie rod thread should be left in the end shackl
i believe that it should have AV at the front of the can somewhere?
could well be that its at the top (try roatating it)
but like ken said, its more than likely the innads are back to front, = no way to tell but to cut them open and see?

You can tell if the cans have been cut open. It's stamped AV about an inch or two back from the front end. Letters about 30mm high.

You can't do that with the rear shackle as it doesn't go through the hole in the chassis.

I keep finding things but if someone who doesnt know anything about the car, is that possible ken?? also did you sort the self tapping bit out then?! thats pretty bad, which garage? staying clear of that one!

Do you need to alter the front arms as well, like the racers do in order to keep the steering geometry right?

No as we only raise the car around 3 to 5cm at the front wheras the racers drop them a lot more than that. Also as I remember it, as the car goes up the steering gets lighter but wind it down and it gets heavier hence the reason the correct the camber/caster angle. Front drive shafts are extended tho as standard ones can pop apart which I've seen happen on some standard 2CVs when out playing off road.

I remember Ian's (can't remember his surname) car being stuck at the bottom of the hill at Taxall in Derbyshire with a broken engine mount and one wheel drive because the driveshaft had popped out when the engine and gearbox rotated. The only way we could get it back up the hill in the end was to put some weight on the front bumper, which involved me and Brian Dark standing on it.
