Viking if the threads are damaged then I'll replace the gearbox entirely and put my spare one in, so everything will be coming out anyway in that case. The photographs are helpful as I find it difficult to envisage what part needs to go back where!

Before dropping the box on its place, remove the lid to make sure that the selector ring is locked. Also remove the rear cover to inspect these 2 nuts ( nearly always loose). If so, lock 2 gears together, 1st and 4th (only possible without the lid) Secure outer race on both rear bearings with 2 bolts and large washers to revent the bearings to slide backwards. Use correct kilos, see work manual. Dont worry about opening the locked nuts, the collars are soft and will open when they are turned by force. No the thread will no damage, its hardened.

On the dumb question scale this ranks 99 out 100. Someone should send you a prize.

To be fair to James, it does say words to that effect and, also, to be fair to James-I seem to recall he has slight dyslexia (sorry if I'm wrong James) so it could be a bit confusing perhaps, especially to someone that hasn't got many, many years of experience under his belt. After all he is only 17/18. So I think it may be nice if you cut him some slack on this one!

He's keen, he's asking questions. But he's young and he's part of the future of 2CVing, don't scare the poor sod off!

That said though James, I really hope you pass your resit in English az yowre spilling is orfull! ;)

"and i have to repass my inglesh gsce i cant fale or im doamed for live "

Or you could always move to Wales where your spelling won't look out of place. ;)
