coops kindly gave me aboot lid which i received from matt yesterday, thanks alot coops

so ive put boot lock handle thing in it, done the screw up, and tehres about 8mm of play in it moving back and forth, the boot when "locked" you can pull open, so im assuming that the locking bit isnt sitting in its grove bit, so i adjusted that, still no luch, any suggestions????



i thought maybe the play in the handle is causing it to wobble?

Fit a new lock?

As a side note, the driver's door lock on my 2cv was acting up recently, when you pushed it down to open the door, it would just 'slip' and refused to operate. Just removed, dismantled and sprayed wd40 around the lock barrel-lots of manky sh!te came out out, and it now works a treat.

The 'tab' that actually locks the boot is fixed and only moves circular. The up and down play is normal.

You need to play around with the catch that is attached to the car until it hold the 'tab'.

If turning the boot handle causes the 'tab' to move when in the lock position** then as previously mentioned dismantle completely and clean (dont use thick greese as this just makes it clog up and require doing again in a shorter time frame). There is a small circlip that can be removed to extract the lock barrel, watch it doesnt disappear!
** this is normal issue for 2cv locks over time.

it locks fine, and that all works, i think its the tab wont sitt in the locking catch thing, ive adjusted it, its slightly better than it was, but still able to open the boot when its locked (if you pull the boot lid hardish)

I would expect that the play is because the inner skin of the boot has been bent inwards, probably by non-2cvers thinking they can close the boot by slamming it when the handle's in the shut position.

its as straight as anything, but the play is in the handle not the locking bit..

Maybe there is a problem where the bootlid hinge / bottom of rear window fixes to each side of the bodyshell. I vaguely remember that there is a slot in one of the fixings so that the hinge can be fixed higher or lower relative to the bodyshell. If the hinge is fixed too high it may be the reason the catch - doesn't. Maybe you have a loose bolt there or something.
Just an idea to check....

i have a matts roof, and after having the new roof, the old boot shut slightly differntly,

i will try adjusting it, do i lowetr the hole roof? sllightly?

any way to get rid of that 6 7 mm gap?

Yeah I would say lower the hinge slightly, there should be enough stretch in the fabric to take up the slack, then try tugging the boot open when the handle is locked to see if it still pings open or if that fixes it, if not try moving it down slightly more. repeat.

But the 8mm gap on the handle is something else, mine's like that and I just live with it.
