Look at things like Austin A40 Farinas, basically a pretty nice little car, but they're so cheap that no one can realistically spend money on making the most basic of spares. Because of that no one runs or buys them and the slightest little thing effectively renders the car scrap. Yes that is the silver lining to the gloomy cloud I've painted I suppose. If there's money being spent on a certain marque or model then a supply industry will surely evolve to accommodate those punters and their cash. You're right about the Austin A40 too, they do suffer, and yet due to its popularity the old Morris minor or MG have a spares back up to rival that of the 2cv. Popularity is a double edged sword indeed. I'm in a funny mood just lately, introspective, it's at times like this when I usually go out and do something outrageous just to make myself feel better. I think the Mrs better dust off my straight-jacket...

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I was just browsing through the very old ads on leboncoin where right near the last page I found this little lot. They will have sold long ago of course, but I was heartened to know that yes, the French do still have barns full of exactly what I'm looking for. The shell came with the various panels, doors and bonnets (2 of them) and it was a 1960 model, (just like myself). The vendor asked simply for a fair offer, whatever that might be? There's something about old cars that are found in barns that really appeals to me. Show me any number of smart and shiny cars and although I do admire them they never seem to fire my imagination like a derelict car with potential does. Just the mere glimpse of a bit of curvy roof line through the weeds and rubble has my eyes darting all over the place, I also have the unfortunate 'ability' to think that those battered and busted up wrecks 'aren't that bad actually' when I look at them. With my rebuilt car now pressed into daily service and running like a good 'un, it has left me with nothing to report as yet, nothing having dropped off it or gone wrong thus far. So as I've no car related stuff to post here then to fill some time I've decided to do a smallish oil painting of a rusty old 2cv 'as found' in a barn, and post it here. I'll do it in real time so to speak, and so will show you all the different aspects involved in creating a finished painting by posting pictures of each stage of the progress, combined with short explanations of the materials and techniques used at each stage as I go along. Hopefully the insight that this will give into how it's done might be of interest to some of you, and it'll give me something to think about other than the humdrum stuff like how to pay the bills each month. Finally, when the painting is finished, I'll ask you guys to suggest a title for it, and the person that submits the title that I like the most wins the original oil painting. I'll start work on this as soon as I get a little spare time, and I'll also provide any updates on my daily driver as and when something happens.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Thanks chaps. I have to keep out of mischief somehow and I thought this might help. It was Mrs Nails suggestion actually, as the last time I got bored and wrestless like now I ended up posing semi nude for a woman's calendar... and I was 44 then! - I kid you not. The time before that I poured a gallon of concentrated washing up liquid into the recirculating fountains outside Bolton town hall at 3 am in the morning. The town awoke later to a precinct chock full of soap suds five foot deep. However, I've been with my current Mrs for six years now and she watches me like a hawk, which is perhaps why I spend so much time on line these days.

 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Brilliant. I did the fairy liquid in a fountain thing at the colgate building in Guildford before they used to turn it off at night. Went across the dual carriageway. i was well proud.

Old-Nail, talking of missed opportunities. If you'd managed to combine these two adventures, fame and fortune would surely have followed... ken Old-Nail wrote: Thanks chaps.
