Post Importation / Registration Question
Hi,

My brother has got a GSA Service Van (lucky swine! :) ). Hes just MOT'd it and now needs to register it. Trouble is he hasn't got a lot of paperwork with it. Haven't got a Carte Grise, but he has got a certificate of importation. The certificate states something alng the lines of: 'please take this to your local vehicle licensing office as soon as possible'. However, its dated 1988, when the GSA was imported. Does that cause any problems?
Presumably, he needs to get someone from the CCC or Citroen UK to verify chassis numbers, age, etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Dom

GSA service van! very nice! Any pics? ;)

What i would do is order an 'import pack' from the DVLA here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Bu ... DG_4022583

Fill out the necessary - which TBH isn't a great deal, then, as you say you'll need a dating certificate/letter from an official source - so that could be Citroen UK (if you are VERY lucky), or from Graham H Wilson? the G registrar for the CCC. That *should* cover you for lack of a carte grise - although the when you come to take all the documentation to the local DVLA office don't be surprised if they want to inspect the vehicle - the inspection is a bit of a joke, TBH.

I wouldn't worry about the fact that it's been lingering since 1988, just treat it as a recent import.

Thanks for the reply Neil.

Cheers for the link, I've got a pack on the way. I'm going to the G Rally on Sunday, so hopefully will have a chat with Graham about it. I'm not too worried about the rest really, but thought I'd ask if anyone else had experienced a problem with the time gap issue.

Will let you know how it goes, along with some photos when its all badged.

It's an easy process. You go to the local vehicle licencing office. You'll need proof of age of the car, a letter from the club will suffice.

MOT certificate

Valid insurance

You also need two forms of identity, passport and utility bill is fine. Fill in the form, pay the 50 quid or so registration fee and the road fund licence and it gets allocated a registration number

Graham will probably point you to Brian Drummond - there's only two people authorised to issue dating certs, Brian and Nigel Wild. I'd expect Brian'll be there, if not drop him an email to chairman@citroencarclub.org.uk

Well I went to the G Rally, there was John Sobey's lovely Ami Estate and a Dyane Pick Up.

I spoke with Graham and Brian at the rally and hopefully I can get something sorted out shortly.

Again, thanks for your help.

Just a quick update on this. Brian kindly sent me a letter stating the year of manufacture and I headed off to my DVLA office (Worcester). I was told that the letter wouldn't be accepted as the vehicle was too new!! Yes, a 29 year old GSA is too modern a Citroen for them to accept a letter from a car club! I rang Brian and asked him if he had had any problems before and he said no, the club is registered with DVLA to have the authority to issue such documents. I went back and spoke to someone else to be told the same. "As a 1980s vehicle, the manufacturer should still hold records for it and as the manufacturer is still in existance, its them I need to see".

So, to Citroen UK it is........

I'll keep you updated.

Have you researched the possibilities of locating and procuring a registration document from another similar vehicle?

You may call me Tony.

Really? I had no worries with my local DVLA office (Truro).

Good luck. I first contacted them around late November last year - first of all i was told they'd get back to me later in the day - which to their credit they did. But only to ask if i was sure an Acadiane was actually made by Citroen! WTF? After assuring him that they were part of the company he worked for's back catalogue, he asked for pics of the vehicle & of the VIN plate... I sent these the same day & waited & waited & waited &... over the next couple of months i made numerous call, sent faxes, emails and more photographs of the chassis number actually stamped into the chassis leg, i'm still waiting for a response.
