On a different note, it seems body and chassis are scored as one item on the whole vehicle rebuild thing. I reckon I could scrape the remaining 9 points needed to retain ID (I'd have to anyway if changing the chassis), so maybe that would leave the new LHD option open. I can't for the life of me find anyone who knows for sure, I've been trying to ring an engineer at the DVLA but none of the phone numbers lead that way.

Don't.

It is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.

Not quite what they were saying or doing when I was trying to get it back over the last 3 weeks!

Of course it could, it is your property until the insurance company pay for it. They have no right whatsover to hold the car. You can incidentally negotiate that they don't write the car off. They will pay out on the basis that you are responsible for the repair. It'll save you a whole load of hassle.

Sorry, Twofifty, I was  ing at Adrians post.
I thought a cat c write off meant I was responsible for repairs? It might be too late to argue that one.

Not so fast... Roo's claimed off his own insurance. They've already said "It's dead, mate." - and not just on financial (CatD) grounds. So it is already written off. From here on in, it's merely a case of whether Roo buys back the salvage, and for how much taken from the payout. Repairs (or breaking or whatever) after that are absolutely Roo's responsibility.

Phew, that's one less avenue to go down!
If anyone has any examples of cars sold on the road for around 600 or projects sold off the road for under 600 but without the heavy damage mine has they would be welcome. I need them to persuade the insurers they want too much.

I know, but the categories are a paper exercise. Presumably if it isn't written off on purely financial grounds it'll be a cat C write off, at which point it'll need a VIC check. It is worth his while arguing with the insurance company as to what it is classed as. If it get moved from a C to a D then he can put it straight back on the road after rebuilding it.

Often the insurance can be pushed into just letting you keep the car, as you said, it is an exercise in haggling.

Cat D would be a blessing, but I'm growing battle weary! What would need doing, I mean, it's a mess, cat C seemed fair to me?

From the sound of it, I think it's fairly fortunate not to have ended up CatB...
