News from DVLA is it will have to go through the vehicle rebuild scheme because the chassis is going to get replaced and the old one does not have an ID, being an aftermarket one. Here we go :?

Alrighty then, the insurers want 600quid for salvage, what are we saying? I thought 500 was my cut off so they pitched it well. Is this about normal, should I argue?

Think of insurers as salesmen in a Moroccan market, but without the mint tea. The first number is always a starting point for haggling.

IIWY, though, I'd be going and seeing it, and getting plenty of photos, then posting them here. Then you know what you're actually bidding for. If it's not as bad as feared, £600 is worth while. If it's total scrap, then it's way OTT.

Thanks, Adrian.
Trip to Nottingham on the cards then.
What I know is damaged;
chassis
lower, mid and bonnet hinge on bulkhead,
boot floor
some sill damage and RH floor pulled from sill a bit
lamp panel
LH B post upper hinge
front wing frame
cowling plus probably other damage to engine+peripherals
exhaust
gearbox at least bell housing probably rear cover maybe other
the steering rack was on the list for replacement this year
no idea if the front arms bent, it seems likely, but from what I saw it wasn't obvious.
the roof was past it
the tail gate seems to show signs of body twist, but one would hope it would straighten out once off the bent chassis :o
And for all I know, the yard in Nottingham might be chucking it about on a forklift or something.
Haggling begins...

BLIMEY.

Mine had FAR less damage than that after I was shunted and I paid £250 salvage. That was 2006 though.

A few questions... mine was a cat C... and I kept driving it for 2 months before I had the chassis replaced... and never went through any reregistering process :?

Sounds more like it!
Matt's had a good idea about sending examples of on road cars at 600 (I have such an example not too far away) and off road ones for 2-300 (which have front ends) then talk them down.

Hillariously they are now saying the car could have been released to me at any point.
Not quite what they were saying or doing when I was trying to get it back over the last 3 weeks!
