Those of you that use your A series daily, or regularly drive over extended distances may be able to answer this one. What items do you consider to be essential in a tool kit that can be carried with the car at all times? What item do you never leave home without?

I know it would be nice to have something for every eventuality, but I'm thinking more of a good flexible group of tools that can cope with most roadside jobs likely to arise, and be left permanently in the car. Have a think about it before you answer, because what I'm looking for here are answers such as spanners - which sizes, and how many of each size?

Molegrips, adjustable wrench, or both?

When you've done that list how about an essential spares list? I always carry a spare coil and a set of bulbs, some cable ties and duck tape...anything else?

in my boot is, jack, starting handle, spare coil, HT leads, bulb set, fan belt, point box etc incase 123 lets me down. spanners for bolts for most jobs, ill have to check the sizes. and a spark plug socket, a litre of oil, empty jerry can on long journeys. and a spare RAC card.

I carry in a box in the boot:
Starting handle
Coil
Small socket set
Cable ties
Duck tape
Molegrips

If I can't fix it with any of that I'll call the RAC and maybe utalise some of the other things in my 'spares' box while I wait, which include:
Torch
Can of petrol
Matches
Cheapo Asda knives and forks
A frisby
Blanket
Condoms

As someone once told me (I think it was John Stenhouse) - all you need is WD40 & ducktape. If it moves and it shouldn't - ducktape. If it doesn't move and it should - WD40

I also carry; oil pressure switch, brake light switch, Carb return spring (carb to cowling), sometimes i carry a fuel pump, length of fuel pipe, fan & pulley.

Fan pulley, kinnetic rope, winch, winch shear pins, tow straps, spring, tie rod eye, spring holder, lock deicer & spare 123

RAC card.

I don't bother with tools any more. No matter what you carry, there are situations you don't have the tools to deal with. I'd rather get towed home and fix it on the drive.

Any hole's a goal and all that.

I forgot to mention, some fuel line, throttle cable, the book of lies and restoration guide.

Does that mean you also carry condoms, Neil?
