Post Are you sitting comfortably?
I hope to be fairly soon.

When I take my Charlie of the road next month for a darn good refurb, one of the things I plan to do is fit firmer seats - I just don't get on with the original softies. And yesterday, I collected the ones I plan to use...

They're from a Suzuki Vitara (not these actual ones, but similar: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT)

Why this car? Because (a) they look well lush, (b) they are extremely comfy, and (c) - most importantly - they have rear seats that should fit into a Deux Chevaux!

The rear seats are only 520mm wide, so should fit in nicely between the arches. Also, they fold flat, slide back and forth AND the whole seat tips completely forward - instant extra boot space :)

I haven't examined them closely yet, but it looks like the rears are fitted using hinges at the front of the rails (which should hopefully bolt through the front edge of the raised rear floor bulkhead) and then a retaining loop will need to be fixed on the floor at the back that the seats clip in to.

The front slide rails are uneven heights, so a frame will need making for them. But I believe that applies to any seat you'd want to fit.

I just need to dust down my welder. And learn how to weld...

(Please check these measurements for yourselves before considering them...)

For an alternative to get harder seats and also keeping them original
I've got 2cv seats that were refurbished and has had a neoprene (?spelling?) pad fit to the underneath which is much better than the original and easy to do. ;)

I've just refurbed my seats and they're a bit firmer than they were before, trouble is if your 6ft you end up crouching your head to see under the top screen bar. I'd sooner have the lower seating position that softer seats give, which also gives better (for tall people) forward vision.

I've already decided I'm not concerned about authenticity with this one... :)

Good point, Old-Nail; I'm 6'2" and the top of the windscreen frame is still annoying even with the softish seats. I have another 2CV - an '89 Special - with even softer, although newer, seats and this gives better vision but at an even greater expense of comfort; I just hate the sinking feeling.

Good point, hjbh, but I'm after a little more that just firmness. I'll be able to set the fronts at my ideal height, and it'll also provide excellent - and adjustable - support for my back.
