 Re: My old Blue Bamboo
I got thinking about this some more and wondering where the noise was coming from, after all the steering tube was only transmitting it, not making it. When I've had a minute I've jacked the front up and sure enough the nearside front wheel bearing is sounding rather grumbly. That's weird as it has no play in it, and it was good enough to pass the MOT just a few of days ago so quite how that's happened is a mystery. It is par for the course though, as the wheel bearings were the only items not replaced as a matter of course like everything else was. That'll teach me.

Old-Nail, that's not unusual for A series wheel bearings, which can be growling or even howling very loudly yet still not show any play. I'd guess they have a fair amount of preload designed in... ken. I think that's on right? They're only there to shade yer bonce and keep the flies out, and that appears to be doing the job. Fog lamp and whitewalls eh? The Neo-retro throng is growing! Love it!
