i'd loved to have sold it to an enthusiast. It's gone to a trader in classic cars - it'll be up for 5k next week!

Feck, feck and triple feck....no I wasnt joking!

Am a big fan of autoglym too - polishing the inside takes it to another level!

Bugger!

It now lives in North Yorkshire! Can't believe I found this thread, well chuffed!

Hope this is ok reviving an old thread as my first post, but I wanted it re-introducing back into the community...

Its a great car, the work on the body is fantastic, just fitted electronic ignition and its running great. Hopefully many more miles to come.

It has just developed a problem though which I'll need this forums' help with, I'm a bit flummoxed by it to be honest!

cheers

Joe

Welcome to the forum, Alkie!

Nice to see the van again. Hope you lashed it in rust proofing wax - it won't last long without it! Will it be used for business/advertising, or is it more for pleasure?

I have the original french number plates here if you want them?

Neil.

I am a bit worried about the rust, and its next MOT, this ain't the best environment for it to be living in! It was sitting in terential rain the other day and I was just looking at it and fretting.

Where's the best place to start rust proofing (other than everywhere!), I was just going to get some waxoyl and a hand pump and just go through the whole thing.

It started spluttering like mad under hard throttle coming over the tops to work this morning, the accelerator pedal kept going soft and hard, I stopped and checked the cable, everything seems to be in order, the in line filter seems to be clear too. I had to abandon it and walk the rest of the way. Hoping its just a fuel pump problem and it might let me drive a couple of miles on the way home before it starts again.

I would love the original french plates thanks Neil let me know postage and all that,

cheers, its in great condition, I just hope it does last long enough before a new chassis is needed,

Joe

Is there any way you can find it some storage? If not, a (proper exterior-grade multi-layer breathable) cover is better than nothing. The various specialist cover manufacturers I spoke to about our vans insist that a Moggy Minor Traveller cover is a good fit. I am a little sceptical - I reckon the best bet is to find an event where one of the suppliers is attending, and get them to bring one along. Try it, if it fits, you'll buy it...

There's better products than Waxoyl, but Waxoyl's better than nothing. If you can get access to a compressor, get a schutz gun and use the litre tins.

Doesn't sound like anything "liquid". Not if the cable's going "soft and hard". Might be worth checking to see if the spare wheel's moving and squishing the cable.

In N.Yorks, you're perfectly placed to introduce that lovely van to Uncle Ken Hanna and his spanners, in Selby.

Thanks for the help, I didn't notice the spare wheel being close, can the throttle linkage or clips come loose easily? I wish I had more time to check, I'll post in the proper section when I've had a good nosey around. Haven't been towed for ages so am dreading the impending embarrassment...

Thanks for the info on the cover, any shows coming up soon? I really want to get one. Its a shame as I want to use it as my daily driver and constantly uncovering and covering it could get tiring, but better than a giant welding bill, unless I just save it for when I put it to bed or when it rains. I've only had Amazons and Minis before, they were bad for rust, is the metal particularly bad on the later cars? (I can feel that being a dumb question!)

I was looking for a local specialist and if Ken Hanna is the man then I'll use him, although I'm over in Skipton way so a fair but nice drive. I'd rather deal with a smaller place and let them get to know the car.

I love the sound of the exhaust, especially when it bounces back off dry stone walls...

Apologies for all the questions, new to the tin snail lark! We had a couple when I was little so the bug must have bitten at an early age.

I'm thinking of the wider classic car cover suppliers and events, rather than anything 2cv-specific. Have a look through Craptical Plastics or one of the other glossy comics for ads and events.

Joe,

I've gotta be honest, one of the main reasons for me selling the Acadiane was that i just didn't feel comfortable using it every day. The metal used in Acads in particular is rubbish! Probably the same kind of stuff they built Alfa suds & Lancia Betas from!

My mate that did the bodywork remarked on the poor quality of the steel. I've pumped loads of Bilt Hamber 'Dynax S50' into the sills, screen surround, side rails, rear doors, etc - but it was as dry as a bone everywhere else. If you do plan of using it as a daily i would lash everything in wax - you can always clean it off come summer with white spirit of similar. Something will need to be done before winter sets in (have we even had a summer) & they start gritting the roads.

Ahhhh bollocks! I knew they were bad but didn't know they where that bad! I should have done my research, I'll get some ordered and wait for a free weekend to get it done. How was the chassis condition wise when you had it? I'm gonna have to start saving I think...Its worth ploughing on with I hope, my girlfriend wanted a small camper but I convinced her to get one of these, we're gonna build a false floor and put some luggage nets in it. I just love driving the thing and its so easy to work on. I love seeing the look on peoples faces when the door mirrors are nearly touching the floor on roundabouts. The police like following it too I've noticed.

Definitely, I get Crapitcal Shit-tips so I'll keep my eyes peeled, anything I can do to stave off the rust. Hope there's some meets up north too, looking forward to it.
