I've got the old man to take my Peugeot wheels to work and try on a few different size tyres. Ideally I want a fairly low profile 155 or 165. Blackcircles have 155/65/15s for about £150 a set or 165/65/15s for a bit more. Ideally I'd like to lose between 5mm-10mm off the ride height with them, and have a fairly stiff sidewall. With any luck Dad can bring me home a couple of scrap tyres to try and so I can cut off anything they're going to foul on (or make sure they're not going to foul on anything I can't cut off) before i spend any money on them.

Interesting, have you tried them on a 2cv? I didn't like to go wider than a 165 as I'd like them to be quite stiff (without doing that pointless stretched tyre thing retro rides get all wet about). Are 2cv rims 4"? The pug rims are half inch wider that 2cv rims.

Yep, 2cv rims are 4", I thought your pug rims looked bigger than 4 1/2"? And those mini tyres are the same diameter as 125 michies.

Russell,
from what I've heard, some of the racers use the following approach...
Slacken the rear axle bolts, cut the rear axle in the middle almost all the way through, bend it down in the middle until the arms have the desired amount of negative camber, then weld it back together.
This way, you're not cold working the rear arms, plus _any_ rear arm will do the job...

ken

( The usual disclaimers apply, in that if you make this modification and the following week, your Minilite wheels fall off or any other vehicle related disaster happens to occur, than that is entirely your own responsibility. )

I'm aiming to have a go at bending them, how exactly do I do this? just make an arm bender, bolt it on and tweak it on the car until it looks about right?

They're going on the Meh. Timmy's got the same size on Jeremy, and Jeroen Cats had 'em on some of his 4-pots.

I don't think there's a problem with G steels on 2cvs - the alloys need to go with Ami track-rods, else they machine a neat slice out of the rim, but the steels should be OK.

They'll restrict lock badly, though...

As I'm sure you're aware, practicality isn't usually at the forefront when I dick about with 2cvs...

True enough.

I started to make the patterns for the roll cage today, it looks like I'm going to end up using the best part of 18m of tubing, so it'll probably be pretty heavy. Ah well, it'll look cool. It's going to make getting in and out of the car seriously difficult (see previous statement regarding practicality) but will be excellent should I need to offer anybody in a miniskirt a lift.

One thing I don't have at work which I'd really find quite handy, is a hole punch. One of the older style bolt together type which leaves a nice swaged edge when the holes been formed. I'll either have to buy one or try and borrow one.

Progress on the car today? Nothing. at all. bad times. I might go and polish it a bit in a mo though.

Wait, no, that's not true.

I just went and buffed a bit more of it up. Opened the garage door and there's a new floor, 3/4 of a new floor, and half a new sill sitting there. The old man found them in the lockup eariler, I had no idea I had them! That's cut the shopping list down a fair bit now, so later on we're going to wheel the chassis under the body and stick it back in the garage, where I'll start bracing it and cutting the floors and bulkhead out. assuming I get paid this week as I'm meant to, I'll order the bulkhead and the other sill I need from Roy, and hopefully I can crack on with it at the weekend. Ideally, the shell will be welded and I'll have the plates for the roll cage bolted in by sunday night.
