1. ECAS has those white concave spacers.
2. I reupholstered the rear seat of my car and used 2" foam. This was too thick and a rear seat passenger now risks rubbing their heads on the underside of the roof. I'd wrongly presumed that the old foam had deteriorated and was thicker than it was. 1" would have been better.

Think SPOG have had them re-manufactured.

Ok so I know a 2cv can be slightly misaligned and still function perfectly, and I know that door gaps, panel and swage lines that blend seamlessly together are the province of far more expensive cars, but at the moment I'm finding the panel fit on this car to be pretty lame.

Image

In the top photo you can see the sort of thing I'm contending with. The quarter panel has a wider gap at the bottom of the wing and again at the top, but with the middle bit resting against the top of the wing. Same thing in the photo above, the door shuts absolutely perfectly so I'm reluctant to spoil that by attempting to get a straight line across the door trim. I know many of you will shrug this off and wonder why it bothers me, but it does, because to my eyes it makes the car look like it's been thrown together, which it hasn't.

More annoying than anything else is the gap between the front wings and the bonnet. Looking from the drivers side the gap appears quite acceptable, but look at it from the nearside as in the photo below and the same gap is double that of the first one!

As the wing is mounted to the headlamp bar at the front there isn't much wriggle room for making things line up slightly better. Both wings have to come off again anyway because guess who forgot to replace that steering tube bottom rubber seal? But I would like to think a better set of gaps could be had next time, at the moment though I don't see how, any thoughts?

what about a spacer to push the nearside wing forward to close the gap off? i found that i have to wiggle my wing about to make them fit properly (probably not the ideal way to do it with fresh paint)

Post Re: My old Blue Bamboo
Well the car is looking all but finished externally, and with just over a week until the MOT test I need to get a bit of a move on regarding the remaining jobs. The front seats still have to be recovered, and Mrs. Nail has begun to make the matching covers ready to be fitted at the weekend.

I had the rear seat cover that she had already made up handy so I decided to put that in today. I managed that without too much drama, and the back of the car now looks and feels a very comfy place to be.

Image

I'd also asked that she did a back part to the seat cover so that it hides the foam and elastic view as seen in most 2cv's when the boot is opened. It turned out quite well I think. Well done my Mrs! 8-)

Image

What I've been doing is machine washing the old original seat covers, before re-mounting them over the new foam and innards, and then finally adding the top cover that has been made up specially. Anyone who's ever had a go at this will know that trying to get the top of the seat back part of the cover pulled down over the new foam can be a real swine, with the cover pulling down on the foam and causing it to move. Below is the best tick to prevent that happening, place some plastic over the shoulders of the foam, slip over the cover easily and quickly, pull out the plastic sheet - done!

Panel gap

is the light bar pulled as far forward as possible

is it a repo chassis? old wheels ones were a 'mare with the lamp bar being too far forward and stretching the wings the other way, as well as the outriggers neeeding packed out with old shocker washers.

never fitted a city one

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".

Around a hundred and sixty years ago Charles Dickens began a novel with those words, and they have never been so apt as when applied to today either. I wouldn't like to guess how hot it has been outside, even now at gone 6.00pm as I type, it's leg-sweatingly warm, and poor Mrs. Nail is still in the back room still sewing those damned seat covers on her machine.

Yesterday I received a parcel from a forum member and absolute diamond gent Mr. Dennis Childs. Dennis has been following this blog and got in touch to say that he had a couple of items that may be of interest. After a brief telephone conversation the items were despatched and arrived the very next morning. One of the items in question was an original 1960's 'Ville-Route' Light switch/horn unit.

Image

I was happy to learn that in keeping with other French cars of the period Citroen had allowed for the 'Ville-Route' malarky to operate on the horn also, which means that an extra horn can be fitted and wired to the switch. Press the stalk lightly for a single horn (ville) and fully for the dual tone full monty. I look forward to fitting that in the coming weeks jolting local cyclists from their two abreast chatter.

Image

Digging around in a box of bits in the garage I came across a single cranked wiper arm. The rubber has gone and the end fitting doesn't look familiar, but if I can find a suitable replacement blade then I'll fit this, it should give that little bit of extra screen to see through without the wiper in the way. Now I started this post with a Dickens quotation and here I'll explain why.

Having enjoyed a beautifully hot day in the sunshine which has seen me re-bleed the brakes to bring them up to tip top form, remove the front wings again and adjust the tracking to at least somewhere within ball-park tolerance, and grease and tighten down the seat runners once the drivers seat had been fitted with Mrs. Nail home made cover, I sat for the first time in that old familiar drivers position.
I'm quite a tall fella at six foot so I need to push the seat way back to feel comfortable. Once it was in my preferred position I did what we must all do whether we admit it or not, I sat with my hands on the steering wheel and tried out all the switches etc (to make sure they were in easy reach I suppose  ) when it happened.

What a B*&^%rd! 'It just came orf in me 'and officer'
