 Re: Setting tappets WITHOUT removing inner / outer wings.... I'm not sure if it's even worth posting this, but the Shedouin's wings have cutouts for the rockers covers in order to perform this task with them in situ.
I wouldn't suggest chopping pristine Ami wings in order to do this but maybe if any of you have some dodgy wings held as a spare set it might be worth doing? After all, there are holes already in the wings for heater dump tubes.
A 2CV is another matter of course as it only takes minutes to remove the wings.

I'm *sure* i saw them for sale from a french parts supplier, but alas, as you suggest, they don't come cheap!
