Haha, yeah. :) Just two years ago, i drove DS 2.3 injektion. Nice ride, little bit dusty but run just fine. When i opened any door, it looked a bit different... Rust, just rust. Doors inside, floors and so on. Needed a LOT of welding and parts chancing. Just about 4000-5000€ more and what a DS after that. But it is just money you need. Money.

I'd rather have a Traction Avant 8-)

Blimey, that's one hell of a cautionary tale Matt. Still want one Lenny?

Always wanted one. I'd be happy enough to have one as a garden ornament.

I'm hoping to get a brief look at it tomorrow. In an ideal world it'll be solid as a rock, in need of a spot of spit and polish and well under two grand.

Obviously, back in the real world, it'll be rotten as a pear, pouring various fluids from various orifices and the poor deluded owner will think it's worth a small fortune.

Hey-ho.

I'll go for a gander and report back.

Cheers for all the advice once again boys and girls.

(Smashing rant by the way Matt. You've done a fair job of confirming my suspicions)

Well it's hardly mint is it?

So it's carb not injection and semi-auto not manual.

Looked surprisingly solid underneath as far as I could see but I couldn't see much really as I had no way of starting it and getting the suspension up. Sills were fairly rot free and at least three of the four doors are useable. Front wings are truly horrendous though. The stainless trim around the roof rails wasn't bulging or hanging off so there's a remote possibility that they may be okay.

Couldn't get in the boot to look at the important areas. Planning to go back with a battery/jack etc next week if all goes to plan.

Earlier the model year the better the steel. Somtimes scruffy unloved-looking ones can be jewels, the re-painted and tarted-up ones proper dogs. I hear 2CVs are the same! You really do need to get properly underneath with someone who understands the construction.

Personally I reckon you might only loose a fortune on that one. I don't think it was that colour originally and I think the interior isn't original. The leather has been shoved in at a later date by someone, cos the dash doesn't match the doorcards.

Sills look like they are shot at the front jacking points too and if its a proper late pallas it will have a double skinned floor, so expect a screwdriver to pass straight through with little resistance where the floor meets the sills.

DO NOT if you get it running and up on the suspension get underneath it unless you have it supported by stands etc. If a Pipe blew whilst you were under it (as maybe likely) you'd be injured.

Lenny - unless you're very rich walk away. I had one several years ago and I can identify with all the problems, both immediately obvious and plenty of others not quite so obvious. Mine was a 2.3 inj and when it was going, it was great. However it cost a small fortune to keep it that way.

In addition to all the other points made thus far, do check the wiring (especially under the dash, which will more than likely be very frilly and believe you me you don't want to know what a new loom costs.

Lovely cars if you buy one that someone else has sorted.
