Post Getting an ignition key cut with no RP or key number
A quick question. I have a ignition/steering lock assembly and a matching V5 (for a Y-reg 2CV) but no RP number, and no key.

Is it possible to find out the missing info to get a key cut - i.e quoting the chassis number to a Citroen dealer for example?

Thanks!
Will

Maybe Mark Dunmore would be able to help?

Some years ago,I lost the keys [door & ignition] to my [then] Visa 652 .....I had to take the log book [in my name],and proof of identity [passport/driving licence/bank statement/etc... ] ....to the local Citroen Main Stealer [sorry "Dealer" ] and they took the numbers off the log book and traced the key number and got me a new pair of keys......took about two weeks to get them though.

Thanks. I'll try the local Cit dealer as a start then. They are fairly 'old skool' and have previously been pretty helpful with my strange historical requests (decals for an AXGT5, random BX stuff, Visa bits etc) so hopefully they can help.

Doesn't everybody just remove the steering lock completely. They are such a pain and fail at the most inconvenient time.

Replaced all of mine with this

Indeed that's the easiest/cheapest option, I'm mainly fueled out of curiosity on this.

My dad had a similar thing on his 2cv- except it was a recycled bomb release switch from an RAF Canberra!

How do you prevent the car from being stolen if you have one of those?

Not a problem in France, however even in the UK stealing a 2CV isn't exactly difficult. I never used to lock mine on the basis that a stanley knife would always get you into a 2CV

How do you break a steering lock with a stanley knife?
