 Re: headlights fault!?
G_J, have you tried switching the sidelights on with the ignition on as well? If dim-dip is fitted on your car and is working as originally intended, the dipped filaments should also light up, but at reduced voltage, so giving an orange glow rather than useful illumination. ken. Gay_Joe wrote: dont mean to hijack your thread Harry, but this is something thats been puzzling me for a while, the relays dim/dip etc, Lily never had anything, no relays, no dim/dip, but the new one has relays, but no dim/dip, but my headlights work fine as they should, so i dont really want to start playing around with something that works fine?

 Re: headlights fault!?
Joe, dunno why you're so happy about this. My guess would be that the test you've carried out confirms the resistor in the dim-dip set up is U/S and nothing more. If the rest of the dim-dip wiring is still as it was when it left the factory, the side light contact in the light switch needs to carry around 125 watts, or 140 watts if you've got halogen bulbs fitted. With that load, it's just a matter of time before the switch overheats and fails... < http://www.2cvstuff.com/Files/DIM-DIP.pdf > It only takes about 5 minutes to disable the set up and give your light switch a chance of surviving , so... ken. Re: headlights fault!?
Mike Phelans explanation is excellent and if anyone out there still has the dim dip arrangement you would be dim not to remove it.
I blame the Swedish for the problem in the first place.

 Re: headlights fault!?
theres no wiring or dim/dip resistor on the chassis, so i have to remove the relays on the bulkhead, i have felt it when the lights have been on for a while, and my headlight switch doesnt get warm?

 Re: headlights fault!?
Joe if thats your C reg red one in your avtar then pretty sure its a dim dipper, so yes chuck the relays if they are the 5 leg ones with black multi plugs, then on the black plug with the 5 wires bridge 1 and 5 as in Kens photo
