 Re: Ami 8 love
everyones opinions differ, which is fine. I have to say i tend to agree with much of what Viking's said; To me personally it does seem a shame for really special cars such as the New 2cv to come to the UK & be used as a daily. I can see what you're saying Matt, but to have a car factory fresh 15-20 years after production ceased, to be used as a daily hack in a climate such as ours day in day out, & depending on how well it's looked after maybe face partial or even full restoration in 8-10 years seems a pity. I'm guessing the Copenhagen 2cv sold for healthy money? surely if this was the case & you were looking for a good 2cv to use & could afford it is to get one restored? After all, in a few years the 'new' car will be just another 2cv... No matter how thorough the restoration, it's impossible to recreate a factory finish; the smell, the paint, etc (some may argue that this is a good thing when faced with a Portugese car ) a car is new once & once only. I appreciate that if it's your money & your car you are entitled to do what you will with it.

 Re: Ami 8 love
I think its nice that a few get preserved just for history's sake. Same for most cars and all mechanical artefacts really. An immaculate 2cv is not for me [my 2cv is like Trigger's broom] but I'm glad that someone out there is doing it for posterity. Like other people on here I've seen a zero miles 2cv a swiss market late levalois built, one covered up in a barn somewhere near Zurich in my case. I couldn't afford to do it myself, but I'm glad that some, including the Citroën Conservatoire, are out there doing it, otherwise we'll only have photos to see what 'original' once looked like. Just my 5¢ ...

 Re: Ami 8 love
OK let use and abuse all our A models even the new or near new. One day we will not have the pleasure of looking at anything else but good condition to completely rust buckets. To me a real sad day. And no a restored car will never be the same as a new car. It is total lack of respect and very selfish to take a brand new A model on to northern European roads.

 Re: Ami 8 love
I'd love to use my cars and keep them looking nice...what actually happens is that they always commit Hari Kari on me or fate seems to take control.
Trabi 601 - Stolen by Gypsies Volvo 144 - Stolen by Gypsies Beetle - 4x4 rammed it from the rear and killed it GS - Engine, hydraulics and gearbox all leaked Ami 8 - engine went bang forcing the start of a 5 year hibernation DS - engine went clatter clatter then bang (Expensively) Grey Mobylette - engine when bang and wheel fell off Green Mobylette - Crankcase blew apart and lost exhaust Wartburg - engine went bang.
So far the only things that seemed immune were Emo the 2CV and my raleigh pushbike.

 Re: Ami 8 love
Im gonna play devils advocate here. Museums and the manufacturers save new cars. I know of 2 museums in this country alone displaying new 2CV's just off the top of my head. So there will always be some. If a car is for sale, its for sale to a person who decides what they wish to do with it, if they wish to use it, fine

Viking, when was the 2cv sold to its UK owner? Depending on when it was sold i wonder how they got around the catalyst laws when it came to registration? viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1224

 Re: Ami 8 love
From memory, it was one of the very last 2cv's sold in Denmark maybe 1990 model. I think it sold in 2008.
