10,600km in 40 years.

Is it just me? I find that a real shame. The car's never been used. It can never really be used. So what's it for?

I dont agree adrian, I mean if you have nearly 7k to spend on an ami, then why wouldnt you use it, i mean its not like you cant afford resto and its done too many miles to be a proper museum piece, so use it i say.

Maybe, but people say it's a shame that I use and abuse my ami6. I don't see the point of having a car and never using it, but it's surely nice that some don't?

I dunno Russ, can of worms that really, i think if you want to own it and have the means to own it, then you should use it. Every vehice i have or want to own has got me fired up at the thought of using it, not for just looking at or sitting in.

I was answering Adrians post, but you got there first!

I guess you can also look at that they are just cars, consumer goods, and people may use them as they wish?

This has been pointed out to me with the Mehari. It's original and (fairly)low milage, but it earns its keep in the summer by being a great daily car and tow car for the boats plus its huge fun.

For me, I get more pleasure using a car, than I do watching its value (potentially) rise as it gets older and maintains a low milage.

A friend of mine had a NEW 2cv sitting in his living room in Copenhagen. Decided to sell, it went to the UK, driving on the roads the first time to Esbjerg. It was picked up on the other side and to be driven everyday. Imagine a new 2cv as a daily runner in the UK. How long will it take before the chassis and body is f.....k
Bad form I think. Special cars should be preserved not abused.
If one want a daily runner, surely a decent top quality used car can be found, not a new or near new like the Ami.

Why though?

Its a car. Especially if its a late model 602cc car. Buy it, use it.

If they can afford the cost of these unused cars, then tbh they wont mind a full resto every 6 or 7 years and dont need the investment of a car like that.

They like to be used.

Anything that has a use and is left to sit is a waste to everyone. (in my opinion)

I agree. IMO, a car that is not used has no purpose. It's like a painting that's been turned around to face the wall.

If I bought that Ami (I wish), I would certainly use it. However, I would ensure I looked after it well and didn't use it much in winter (as long as it were garaged of course - there's nothing worse than a car sitting around on a drive all winter).
