Mehari 'Plage' also had slots.

Or, as they are better known 'Hens teeth'.

Quicker and cheaper to make your own from 15" 2cv wheels and a set of scrapyard rims if there's a need for 14" wheels on a 2cv.

Not sure about that but I understood that the bar was lengthened to allow the square headlamp to be fitted. When they went back to round lamps they kept the same bar so it looks a bit odd compared to the earlier version.

That's how I understand it too, [...]

Ah that makes sense, and why Square Lamps always looked better :D IMHO of course...

On the wheels thing, didn't very early 2cv's have four very slight slots between the centre and the rim (I guess corresponding to four welded areas on the other side)? Also I'm pretty sure that they had no centre bolt hole.

Umm,
didn't Alvis use inboard brakes, back in the late 1920s/early 1930s?

There's a list of other manufacturers which adopted this layout on Wikipedia, but no sign of Porsche there. :?

The variation on this story which I'd heard many moons ago had Citroen and Jaguar as the cast members... :)

No idea what the headlamp bar measurements are, but as a matter of interest, I'm fairly certain that on the Slough built cars, the bars were longer(wider), to comply with British law :?: Another 'interesting' 2cv fact is that it actually fell foul of a British law in the late 40s early 50s, by having in-board brakes, only when the law was repealed, was Slough able to build them :o .

Wheels with 4 subtle slots... so it seems I didn't imagine them.

To answer the question:

AZ '58, 83cm wide.
2cv6, 93cm wide.

So take out 5cm either side and you are there.

The Jaguar inboard rear brakes?
I remember from a mate's 420G some years (30+) ago. Common practice was to cut a hole in the floor to access them!

Yep, they're the 400mm wheels.
