That's part of my reason for wanting one. I'm no mechanical whizz (I'm willing to give stuff a go, but only after I clutch random car bits and cry a little bit - thank god for mates!)

I totally agree in the reasoning behind the original concept, but if it's ONLY about the ease of servicing that feels a bit sad. I think it is a design classic - it follows Bauhaus design - all about function and creating beauty through its engineering. It's as functional and recognisable as an anglepoise lamp or an Breuer chair.

We have lost that sense of distinction. There's not any marques out there that have such a distinctive style - I'd say only the Toyota Iq really has a core in engineering...

Like they were meant to be together:

A Smart rip-off with the engine out of the C1/107/Aygo? On a platform that was kicking about anyway, ready to go under the next generation Yaris?

Even worse, it's going to spawn a bunch of cynically badge-engineered "premium" versions - as if the Aston-Martin Cygnet wasn't bad enough, BMW may be buying it in and slapping an Isetta badge on it...

They don't help themselves with the name! Revolte?! I'm not even going to start punning...

Actually though - at least Citroen continue with some brave design work. I sort-of like it. Check the fold-back semi-convertible roof and the Charleston line. I totally get why commentators are harking it back to the 2cv. Citroen still seem to be denying all knowledge of that "funny car some blokes made for a farmer" though...

Not at all - the full press release for the Revolte guffs on about the 2cv...

Quote:
REVOLTE turns conventions on their head!

Citroën decided to take a bold approach to revolutionising the conventional image of small cars. The modern character of REVOLTE is therefore expressed through provocative styling inspired by one of its most illustrious ancestors: the 2CV. What car better embodies the small vehicle concept than that motoring icon, the 2CV?

Adopting a heretic stance, REVOLTE reviews all the codes of the 2CV, systematically transforming all the values that made the 2CV the myth it remains today.

* the 2CV was plain and neutral, REVOLTE is luxurious and colourful;
* the 2CV was basic and simple, REVOLTE is intelligent and high-tech;
* the 2CV was slow and bouncy, REVOLTE is lively and spirited.

only one thing there i really dont agree with

"the 2cv was slow"

well, to all the people with shocked faces on the dualcarriageway as i fly past at 75+

its hardly slow.... maybe initial accelerating yes... but once your speeds up and theres some momentum... it really isnt that slow!

It means rebellion in French, but surely not a name for a production car that would ever get to the UK.

Still you have to hand it to Citroen, never a dull moment in the design department but most likely won't get passed the PSA dull boys.

They've got plenty of previous for that, of course...

TRD (DTR)
Evasion (Synergie)
Jumper (Relay)
Jumpy (Despatch)

And, of course... France 3 (Beachcomber)

Slow and bouncy! Simply reinforcing the obvious - that Citroens today are 'engineered' by a bunch of stylists, rearranging Peugeot bits to fit and now trying to improve sales by refering to the company's glorious past.

The bouncy tag was probably coined by those who drove worn-out sixties car on which the friction dampers had ceased to work. Slow on an empty motorway (where the tortoise and hare analogy can frequently be used - I've passed many a fast car having to refuel), with a decent driver in a well set-up car, anything but slow in the real world.
